What players must Thommo do his upmost to keep and what players should be shown the door this summer if Blaze are to mount a serious challenge to win back our Elite League title?

I think he should keep:
calder calson weaver moore soderstrom stewart
for definite.
for next season i think Thommo needs to bring in a sharper attack, and a good solid defence man, something we have been missing on occasions this season.

I thought our PP looked absolutley shocking when he was on the ice and his defensive play leaves a lot to be desired. Perhaps with a decent D and decent netminder behind him I'd feel differently?

The one things that REALLY frustrates me about Deschatelets is that he's obviously got talent, but he chooses to overplay things and instead of making the simple pass he does one thing too many and ends up coughing up the puck.
While we're picking fault!! I also think that Calder needs to shoot quicker - the age that it takes for him to line up a shot, he's already been dispossessed!!

I find Deschatalets frustrating to watch because sometimes he's great and other times it's like he's never seen ice.
The interesting thing about thfnick's list is that the players he lists as for keeps are all pretty consistent performers, the best example at the moment being Weaver. The show the door players can play but are inconsistent and always seem to be one or the other (i.e. they play terrific hockey or they are simply shocking) and the indifferent list I would say are players to keep because they do a solid job while hardly being noticed.
The name that sticks out for me this season is JF Perras. Brian Clough used to say two things about goalkeepers, 1. you can't win anything without a good goalkeeper and 2. goalkeepers win you matches. The same principles apply to hockey. A goalie doesn't make a team and you still need good goal scorers, but the point is that it's no good having a forward scoring 30 a season if you're goalie is conceding 5 a game. Most games this season we have outshot the opposion, sometimes by a 2:1 ratio, but still we've lost.
The biggest problem we've had in the second part of this season is how we start matches. I haven't been to all the home games but I can recall several (Phoenix twice, Vipers, Steelers) where we have been two down in the first five minutes. The game is over before we've started. We've pulled it round on three of these occasions but we're giving ourselves a mountain to climb, and teams like Nottingham and Sheffield will bury you with a two-goal head start.

Des has been our one constant this season. When he was on the left wing of the first line it performed, when he centred a line with Barrie they performed. I'm not saying he's not without fault but he's not a player I'd be in a hurry to lose over the summer.

I would offer a totally radical approach and bring in a wholestock of new guys. I personally feel that many who have been here for 3 years or more (Imports) could be getting a little stale and some invigorating freshness is required. Blaze have the scouting network to pluck the diamonds from the rough so I'm sure it is possible.

I think we have a good solid core so i would say...
Keep:
• Calder • Carlson • Weaver • OConnor • Cowley • Watkins • Dechatelets • Lewis • Forsyth • Erik
Maybe's • Moore • Soderstrom
Get rid of: • Perras • Wood • Stewart • Jamison
Bring in a solid goalie, a decent 2nd line forward and i think we'll be pretty soild! I think our defence has been the issue this year.

In Lehman and Koenig we've won trophies by having the best goalie in the league. Perras features in the leagues bottom 2/3 for me.

I can't believe folks are already talking about who should go and who should stay. Only 2/3rd way thru the season and some people have already given up on the team we have. Why are you having a go at our guys, instead of getting behind them. We loose to Sheffield and the knives are out. Ba humbug.
Fair enough it was lowly Hull, but bearing in mind that they've had some good results this season against top flight teams, the only thing that needs to be done is to look at the lines. Thommo changed the lines at Hull and a lot of potential came out of it. The only guys that needed to go have now gone. Showing the door to Perras, Jamison, Moore and Dechatelets is twaddle. Soderstrum, Wood, Stewart and Lewis, someones gone la la. In the lines we had at Hull they all played better. Little Greg Wood was fantastic running rings round the Hull players. Yes I know that shouldn't have be difficult but some of the play in the lines was worth watching.
Bring back Neal and Trev .... Yes and get rid of everyone else 'cos it'll cost a hell of a lot to get them back from their lucrative deals. Some people get blinkered by the past glories, but hey wake up .... That's in the PAST!!!
We have a coach who can bring the best out of his players. He knows what he's doing and from what I've seen there is a lot of possibilities. The run in to the season finish could be a very, very lively one. Results permitting there is still silverware there. Sheffield have had some luck but we can't have it all our own way all of the time. Coming from Up North (Yorkshire, God's county) perhaps I should be behind the Steelers. But hey, I live in Coventry and was introduced to ice hockey through watching the Blaze therefore I am 100% a Blaze fan. I watched, got hooked and am behind Thommo's men through thick and thin.

Well, Ive been reading the postings on this thread today with disbelief at some points! I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, no problem. But I wonder sometimes if we have been watching the same team play hockey! Here is my list:
Keep Stewart Soderstom Erik Forsythe Wood Watkins Cowley Moore Carlson Deschatalets O'Connor
There are some players who have been inconstant, some are in the list above and two that stand out are:
Calder Weaver
Yes Weaver is good on the attack, but his defensive mistakes seem to go un-noticed by blinkered fans who then blame JF. He is not TK and never will be! They are massive boots o fill, and as for Lehman - he is a good netminder who will probably be out in Europe next season. Thommo has Faith in the team we have at present and we should all be behind them and think about next season June, July time! Not now!
