Personally, Im suprised Lewis isnt getting more of a mention here as a keeper. IMO he has been an almost perfect player for our team, he brings a lot of toughness to the lineup, and 3 or 4 times to my knowledge has practically run a game the way he wants it run, see Bolzano and Panthers a few weeks back. Ill bet hes got more points than anyone here thought he would, 27 so far I think, and infront of the net hes great on masking the netminder or getting redirections. Definately a keeper.

Anyone feeling let down with Wever not giving Perras sufficient support this season? Is the D as a whole weaker and therefore easier for teams to score against? I think Weaver has let JF down quite a bit. On a number of occasions he's stood and watched the opposition nudge the puck in. Maybe he is carrying an injury but if he's icing then he should do his best. Earlier someone posted about Brian Clough saying that a good keeper made a good team. Think you should listen to the Man Utd keeper after the West Ham game. He said that his clean sheet was mainly down to the guys infront of him. The defence. Now what do defencemen do.... oh yes defend the net from opposition attacks and shots. I have no doubt that Weaver is a good D-man but for some reason he's just not doing it at the moment. Then again he didn't ise against the Devils and still the puck went past for outfield players. Glad to see Thommo put the line of Wood, Stewart and (can't remember the rest) but it performed really well. Man of the match eh 'ikle Greg, welldone that man.

He was injured in Manchester which is why he didn't ice last night, but as you say they still got 4 goals (although Perras should have saved their 4th, shocking that it got through him (even if Devils were offside))

dgudgeon:
Actually if you read my post i said that a goalkeeper DOESN'T make a team. My point was that its no good having five or six players scoring 80+ points a season when you're goalie is shipping 4 or 5 a game.
What the Man Utd keeper said is right but its a team sport and a clean sheet is the product of a solid defence AND a good goalkeeper. Van Der Sar is an excellent goalkeeper and modest enough to share the praise with his defence.
What I don't understand are the people on here who claim that other goalies might have only saved us a goal or two, as if a goal here and there doesn't make any difference! If we win all our games in hand, we're seven points behind the Steelers, who incidentally have picked up those 7 points getting tight games into overtime, where a goal here and there has made the difference between getting a point and not.
We cannot afford to give away a goal here and a goal there. That isn't a championship-winning mentality!

On the Eliteprospects site, under doubtful rumours it lists Calder and Deschatelets moving to Frederikshavn for next season.
And on the Cage forums their all saying Chambers is coming our way next season..

It would be great, having two of the best Brits. But he won't be cheap..
Another Bison who might be coming to us, Reiter. He is a good NM, but after the whole Perras thing I think it might be a mistake signing him.

On the Eliteprospects site, under doubtful rumours it lists Calder and Deschatelets moving to Frederikshavn for next season. That is always a possibility but, from the feedback I am hearing I am not sure if that will be a good move on there parts. With a number of teams in financial problems there is talk of imposing a cap next year. Some teams are saying that their top players salaries may be cut by as much as half. In a country where everything is expensive that would not be an incentive for imports. Many players are re-thinking their careers and are thinking of other options.

maybe i am alone in thinking this but i would get rid of calder. he looks disinterested and at times, like he's skating trough treacle. i know he puts up the numbers, but so would a lot of other players in this league were they getting the ice time he does, and playing next to dc and des.

I don't think Calder is a leader and has been ineffective in the captains role.

I agree. I was surprised when Calder was named captain, I thought either DC or Weaver would get the C.
I think the main problem the team have had this year is chemistry. None of the lines seem to have worked well together at all except for Cowley/Hjamarrson/Moore. AC and DC have lost there spark, playing with Lewis and Sly hasn't worked for them so they have been unable to put up the same numbers as last season.

Wholesale changes needed next season I'd go with a little fine tuning myself. I suspect Thommo will look to change the players that came in last year. Thommo's an astute coach and he'll know where he got it wrong this term. The last time he bombed he reponded with a league championship team and I predict that he'll deliver the title in 2009/2010. If the EIHL is still around of course.........
