Should at least one mod be democratically elected? Reasons posted too would probably be helpful but not essential... I'm just mighty curious.

Not a bad idea. Say every 3 month a new revolving one were to be chosen. The candidates would each be given their own thread to set out their manifesto and answer any questions put to them, then after a short campaign it gets put to the vote. And the winner gets a short term in office so to speak Could be a very good fun involving idea

Sounds good/fun to me.. We have a revolving fourth place moderator spot at the moment, unless we made a fifth spot, but that would need to be discussed in the Staff Room first. I'm liking the new idea to get the place though

Yes...there are a fair few respected members on this forum (at least three of whom are already mods)...perhaps if they had the time and the chance to do the job there´d be less complaints...

Nail, Hit, Head Forums are not democracy's, simply because if they were, then they would be crap. Mod's should be chosen. IF you 'elect' one, then you might have a situation, where one of them stops a particular topic of conversation, aint liked by the masses and then is 'voted off'. Sorry but that is crazy, and also aint the way the better forums are ran. Admin should choose, and then let the mods work together on everything

Oh, jenni mentioned the other day that the 'good' forums all have anonymous mods.. any chance of that? that way the mods would be able to do their jobs properly and not have chats on threads...

Can see where your coming from, but having un-known mods takes away the character from a forum. Having an unknown admin, fair dinkum, but the mods should be known, it enables the character of the forum to grow (All IMO of course)

IMO the anonymous mods could have two characters, their mod one and their normal one. people wouldn't know, as they have two characters.
by being anonymous they are less likely to be accused of favouritism, and being known in their everyday life.
the candidates should be democratically elected yes, give more members a chance to state their case and maybe have a go at being a mod if they are successful.

This is an issue I feel quite strongly about.
Although this isn't an official Blaze forum so the moderators technically don't have any responsiblity to the Blaze Organisation and its fans, it is still a forum used by a large number of fans and it also occasionally has people involved with the club (ie Sally, Doug Schuller, Andy Buxton, John Dalziel) coming online. For them reasons I believe that being a moderator is not just about deleting and editing the target number of posts per day, but they should also be about to help forum members with inquires. Even though the moderators on here are officially nothing to do with Blaze other than being supporters, morally they are ambasitors for the club. Therefore members who have any issues should be able to take them up with the moderators. For example if a member had a post deleted or edited, that member should have the opportunity to ask the mod who deleted it for a reason why, maybe they shouldn't expect an answer but they should still have the right to ask. If the identities of the moderators were anonymous then members wouldn't have the opportunity to do this and moderators would have the opportunity to do what they want, whether it be right or wrong for the forum without getting caught.
As for the origional question about whether mods should be elected, well that depends on whether it would be in the best interest of the forum or not.
