6th August 1945.
Hiroshima iswiped out, at 8:13 am local time, by the world's first atomic bomb. And they said it was to bring peace to the world...
Forgive me if that seems cynical, but I'm really not in an accomadating mood at the moment.

You beat me to the one I was going to do. Ironically the Japanese have had the biggest benefit from that action in comparison to the rest of the world.

Actor Herbert Wilson dies after being shot live on stage as part of a plot
Let's just hope it was on the final night of the run. I'm guessing if it wasn't that the understudy was nervous about filling his shoes

September 1st 2001 England thrash Germany 5-1 in Munich goals coming from Owen (3), Gerrard and no your not seeing things Heskey got one too. I was on holiday in Hemsby at the time of this match, i put a tenner on England winning 2-1 but Carston Jancker getting the first goal, so you can imagine how i thought i was in the money for a few minutes........especially as the odds were something like 33/1. Ah well, as long as we beat the Germans i suppose..........also it's interesting to note that i hadn't heard of the Blaze at this point in time. That soon changed though!

September 6 1969 Ho Chi Minh to be succeeded by committee Ho Chi Minh was to be succeeded by a committee of leadership. Ho, the spiritual leader of North Vietnam and the Vietnamese communists in the South, had died on September 2. His passing led many in America to hope that the time might be right to negotiate an end to the war, but his death had little long-term impact on the war as he had long been only a ceremonial figurehead sounds ominous

Very true. In a lot of these type of conflicts seperated by generation sometimes all that is changed are the names of those involved
