I couldn't agree with you more Dave!
I personally enjoy the panthers matches as they always bring us a game, and it is never an easy win. Last night was a good game, (although I wouldn't say the 4-0 score reflected the effort the Blaze put in). The panthers net minder was out standing for them, (even if he did kick the net off 4 times!) they had a solid D in the 2nd and 3rd, and in the end they took their chances and beat us. Fair enough, well played, congrats they won the most hyped game of the season.
In situations when players/management of both sides start making comments someone is always going to end up with egg on their face, this time it happened to be the Blaze. Will that be the last time players/management publically slate each other, I doubt it. But the result of such things is inevitable, someone always goes home with their tail between their legs.
On to my previous post. At no point in my previous post did I say violence does not occur, but there couldn't have been any trouble last night, cause everyone was out celebrating xmas with their hockey friends, or they'd gone home. I'd like to point out that people who participate in violent activities are very much in the minority and I very much doubt that if violence does occur, it only occurs in Coventry.
The people who act in this manor should be band from the sport. Full stop. IMO
I can't speak for everyone and can only put my own personal perspective accross, but that personal perspective is based on evidence. For over a year now our pub has been the "spiritual home" of ice hockey in Coventry. We welcome fans and players of all teams accross all the leagues with out exception and not once have I ever been concerned about trouble. I have never even heard a raised voice between fans (with the exception of shouting over our possesed juke box) :-)
I feel that the claims about the Blaze fans stem from a time when Coventry as a city had a bad reputation, and a minority of idiots (cause their not fans) have gone a long way to perpetuate this Blaze fans cause trouble nonsense.
Mark don't tar us all with the same brush here. If you'd have come to the game, maybe joined us for a drink pre match, you'd see for yourself that we're a friendly bunch of individuals who enjoy ice hockey, and support our team. That is all. Infact this is me, inviting you to meet us pre match next time the panthers play the Blaze, I'll buy you a drink and you can see for yourself, by meeting us, that we're not a bunch of vandalsing chavs.

Nice to see Danny Stewart got knocked to his knees twice by Sir Mr Bruce Richardson. How humiliating for him. Anyway nice to see people eat their words. Especially the simple fella(Blaze 08) who posts dribble on the cage forum. Good luck for 09. Got knocked to his knees twice by the same punch i think!! He looked out on his feet after that fight. Anyway, yeah like Steph said, fair play for winning but it's your first win at the skydome for a couple of years so get over it. Last nights game hasn't won or lost any titles so it's still all to play for. I genuinely didn't think that there was much difference between the 2 teams apart from Michel Robinson (are you sure he's the goalie the caps gassed?! ). Both teams played well, but ultimately Nottingham took their chances and scored 4 good goals. Still all to play for in my eyes.............

A few observations from reading the Cage Forum. Very interesting that while some Panthers fans predicted bad behaviour from our fans not one person has reported any from last night. Might just be coincidence but the apparent incidents that have happened in the past have always been after Blaze have won giving me more reason to think that maybe these incidents never really happened and its just Panthers fans being sore losers. Might be wrong but then again I might not be. Secondly anybody seen this facebook group? www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=50376152322 Our little club have some facebook groups too. Some of the title's include 'Coventry Blaze Elite League Champions 2007-08', 'Coventry Blaze in Aalborg - Continental Cup 2007' and 'Coventry Blaze Most Successful Team In The UK'. Funny how while these groups celebrate success over one or a number of seasons, the Panthers start one celebrating one victory against a club that they are supposivly bigger and better than. All good fun though I guess. Thirdly look at the picture on Page 8 of the thread on the Cage Forum. One Blaze fan in particular who a few of us know seems very happy about whats going on on the ice.

Are they serious on the Cage about Ndur? "he was immense, no he didn't fight because nobody would go with him" All I saw him do was go after Wood before one of the face-offs in the 1st period, and not go near Lewis all game unless he had at least 2 of his teammates behind him. Yeah, immense

I don't doubt for a minute that the majority of Blaze fans are decent folk. I didn't mean to tar everyone with the same brush.

Yeah, immense Don't think the majority of Panthers fans think Ndur is immense but he must have done something right last night, we did get a shut out. As for the euphoria, I think that is more to do with all the pre match verbals than anything else, human nature I'm afraid.

You got a shutout because Robinson was on fire and our shooting was dire.
Euphoria is fine, but registering/posting just "to go and stir things up" (as said by someone on the Cage forum) is not so fine. Admittedly no rules have been broken, but IMO it's close to trolling and posting something just to get a reaction/start an argument.
As I said before, we welcome fans of any team and a bit of friendly banter is great, but posting just to gloat about winning is not necessary.

Unfortunately we've been on the end of gloating far too many times and some of the rubbish posted on The Cage Forum before yesterday's match was only going to elicit one response if the Panthers won. A certain Blaze08 has been conspicuous by his absence, not the result he predicted I believe.

You got a shutout because Robinson was on fire and our shooting was dire. . To be fair Robinson was good but I wouldnt say on fire. A great performance from the Panthers D made sure he saw the puck early and faced plenty of shots from out wide. Shame we lost all our intensity we'd built in the 1st period by coming out flat in the 2nd two periods. We were sadly well beaten on home ice. Made all the worse after the PR garb that went out last week. Thommo really has got to get the team back on an even keel and fast. Shipping 11 goals in 2 games is dia. Perras can only stop so much but when we continualy leave him out to dry it's no wonder.

All good fun though I guess. All good fun indeed. It wasn't so much the win itself, it was circumstances that were surrounding it. The Blaze were so keen to give us this epitaph and build up the game around it that we were always going to take the opportunity to take the mickey if it all backfired. Which it did spectacularly. Now a few people who decided to push this 'Team Hollywood' thing as far as they possibly could are left feeling a little bit silly and Panthers fans have found something of a badge of pride that was never intended. You can't blame us for being a little bit cocky in that situation.

Fair play to Panthers for winning last night. May your fans enjoy the moment. Blaze fans- don't begrudge them after all we have been spoilt in good times pretty much from the moment the Blaze arrived in Coventry and yes we have gloated big time on regular occasions. Give the Panthers fans their moment now after many barren times.
As for the posts proclaiming violence and the reputation Coventry has.... the phrase concerning pots...kettles and black springs to mind. After all isn't Nottingham the supposed Gun Capital of Britain? Hardly a harmonious reputation or one to be proud of. If Blaze fans started to rake that sort of stuff up every time they went to the NIC I can only imagine the reaction.
At the end of the day it's only an ice hockey match not some tribal conflict.
