Do you think the Wade Belak and Neal Martin D partnership is the best in the Elite League and the best Blaze have ever had? They were awesome again last night... Looks like Wade is upping the anti, how many sizzling slapshots did he have last night?

I have to agree with you totally, Belak and Martin are without a shadow of a doubt the very best two D-men in the league, along with Schuller ofcourse - let's just say we have THE best defence in the EIHL.

Amongst the best pairing in the league right now if not right at the very top. Have to say the Moby/Shudra pairing was pretty dominant a couple of years back too

I agree that Neal Martin is the best D-man in the league. Hell, I think he's the best player in the league. But I can think of a couple of Devils players I would choose over Belak. I would choose Dougie over Belak.

To be honest, Martin is by far the best D-man in the EIHL, so anyone you put with him is going to be a damn good partnership ;D

If Neal Martin returns next year and has another partner you might see how good Wade was this year or not as the case may be.
Last night I and a friend were talking to Kurt Irvine (name dropper) and my friend remarked that Wade wasn't the player he thought he would be, Kurts response was that Wade has a presence that gives opposing forwards something to think about whilst letting his D partner do what he's best at.
Digesting this I have to agree in that it is the sum of the parts which makes for a good pairing and not one carrying the other

Neal Martin is a fantastic d-man, reads the game so well, Wade is one of the toughest players about. So that has the making of a great partnership.
Saying that Wade did nothing against Dundee last night. I wanted to sing something back to the Dundee fans when they sang "NHL Your Havin A Laugh" but based on his performance last night they had a point.

Ever since my first match in November, Neal Martin has been the player i have noticed the most on the ice. He is a great D man, and with his speed, and Belak's physical presence, makes an excellent defence partnership. It's funny how Neal shouts orders at other players. Talented and good looking to boot. A nice combo, and why he is my fave player.
Off topic, I hope the majority of the current team return next season, as they seem to have good chemistry and in tune with each others playing. I just wish Payette would be more restrained when it comes to fighting. I know hes not the only player to do that, but he has the reputation for doing so. It's great how he stands up for the team, but it disrupts the game when fights break out and take 5 mins to clear up. What does everyone else think?

Kind of agree what you say about Payette, but when we take on a player like him we either have the full pint or nothing at all if you know what I mean. Take it or leave it.

Agreed. It is the total sum of the parts of the team which gives us something in every possible area and no major weaknesses on the roster as a whole

Maybe if jody had had his confidence right from the start we'd have won it by now..... just a thought

Maybe if jody had had his confidence right from the start we'd have won it by now..... just a thought What relevance does this have to a discussion on Martin & Belak as a defensive partnership? Why does Jody always have to take sole responsibility when the Blaze lose? In my opinion with these games it was the team performance as a whole that caused them to lose. I agree with the comments on here about Martin & Belak. Martin is possibly the best player in the league this seaon and Belak has a great presence on the ice and is a joy to watch sometimes in dealing with opposition forwards.

Ime with you on this one Jody aways seems to take the rap for the defeat next they will be saying they agree with dave simms bit on jody in power play

Ok, it wasn't a dig on jody, just a musing if you will... Just pointing out that he's on better form now then at the start of the season is all. And i'm sorry for it being on the wrong thread.... .
