I must be really self-centred because I never see any of these fan incidents! It's good that they ARE ejecting people though.

I have been hearing "rumours" that Pavol was targeted in one way or another last night. Can't realy comment on the actual incident which led to the injury as there seem to be about 5 different versions of what happened. My disgust was of the reaction of Darling and some Steelers fans whilst Pavol lay stricken. But hey what goes around comes around if we believe in Karma

BDS-you know my views on the legality or otherwise of the Mihalik incident-although the reaction against Christian is bordering on the level of unreasonable...i.e, Panther-fan level...
The 'hit', if you can call it that, was definitely dirty-if Christian was dodging a check, could someone please explain how he managed to make contact with Mihalik from behind and yank his shoulder sideways with his stick before shoving him hard into the boards? Apart from anything, Schueller was after Christian at the next face-off, and only backed off after a warning from one of the linesmen. Payette thought about going after JC, then saw how badly injured Mihalik was, and thought better of causing a ruckus a few feet away from him.
As for Adams-he looked ready to kill Pavol earlier in the game-everyone on the ice obviously thought so as the linesmen got between them, Darling was headed for Adams to hold him back, and Payette was headed for Mihalik shouting a warning. So any attempt to say that Mihalik wasn't being targeted in one form or another is likely doomed to failiure if these are taken into account. Of course, Adams saying in the penalty box 'we'll have Mihalik later' is incidental.
And Darling-laughing at an opposition player who's clearly in considerable pain-what a man he is.
Credit to the Steelers fans though-after the initial cheer you get after a big hit, they realised things were serious, and joined in enthusiastically with the applause as he left the ice...a credit to their side as usual. Shame their side weren't a credit to them...

I am in the same boat as b2p steve, i won't comment to much on the incident, but i no what it looked like and it couldn't of been made any less diliberate if he had tried. Mike Peron and Jeff Christian are like those annoying little dogs who bark and bark but when it comes to backing it up they will run like hell. I hope Pavol is fine and gets patched up soon, and i hope it hasn't put him off playing here altogether. As for me well it isn't really a secret that i have never liked the steelers, and have decided to never go to a match between them and us again,as i have held my tounge, but now i am going to stop at home where i'm not forced to be polite to them.

Up until last night i was a fan of the Steelers, was gonna get a shirt and was considering going to soe of their games, but not anymore. They have gone from my 2nd fave team in the league to my least fave.

I will make the point i made on the other locked thread, why didnt you big bad Payette dish out any retrebution for his team mate? i find it hard to believe that it was because he didnt want to cause a ruckas over mihalik, there is center ice there waiting to be used.
Lets not shy away from the bit of hypocrasy floating in here from Coventry fans aswell Payette has been known to check dangerously from behind (See Phil Manny incident in Cardiff) And a fair few people on here defended him, Swings and roundabouts in this game i guess.
Time to draw a line under this thing i think let the league sort it out, i just cant wait for Dave Simms to comment on the thing then we will see some angry Cov fans i bet

When a team mate is wriggling around on the floor and there are medical staff on the ice, I don't think it is the time to fight someone. He did have a talk to Christian but when he realised how badly hurt Pav was, he left it.

Well if thats the way PAyette conducts business thast up to him i guess, but i know Davison didnt wait to see how anyone was retrubution was dished out on Peron very very quickly.
i was disgusted to hear that Darling was laughing Peron was laughing when the Cardiff incident happened and i think its the worst kind of unsportsmanlike conduct

But payette hasn't intentionally crippled someone and i'm sure if he had, most people wouldn't defend it i no i certainly wouldn't. And i no people will say its a physical sport, which i accept it is and with anything like that accidents happen, but when its done on purpose which from what i saw it was, then i don't see how anyone can defend the indefensible, and that goes for Payette,Calder,Davison,Craighead or who ever. I am a fan of the physical side of the game, but to injure someone out of spite is out of order, and that goes for anyone from any team as well.

My opinion on the hit was that Christian was chasing the puck down just behind Mihalik. As Mihalik got to puck and tried to play it quickly Christian checked him from behind with the main impact being on the back of the shoulder, this combined with Pavol trying to play the puck resulted in his shoulder going hard into the boards. It was both players momentum that resulted in the severity of the injury. I doubt that there was any intent to injure from Christian, however it was a check from behind
523 - CHECKING FROM BEHIND a) A player who runs, jumps, charges or hits in any manner an opponent from behind shall be assessed, at the discretion of the Referee, a - Minor penalty + Automatic Misconduct penalty (2’+10’) or - Major penalty + Automatic Game Misconduct penalty (5’+GM) or - Match penalty (MP) b) A player who injures an opponent as result of checking from behind shall be assessed, a: - Match penalty (MP)
by the rule book Christian should have received a match penalty as it was a check from behind that resulted in injury. It would then automatically be reviewed to see if more disciplinary action is required.

So my right in thinking, he should have had a MP whether it was intentional or not??
