With the General Election coming up (May 5th I believe) I notice that many members will be casting their first votes in a general election. Given that it is something which can shape the way are lives are governed, the freedom to vote is one of the most important rights in our society. But whom would you all vote for? Explanations if you wish would be good to stir a good debate on this banner day of the year

To be honest I can't see the result of the general election having much of an affect on my life but I'll vote Labour because they are in power at the moment and why should I try and fix something that aint broke. Also when I see Michael Howard talking on TV all he really does is slag off Tony Blair and Labour. He goes on about what the problems are but never says how he is going to solve them. Think the Torries only have him as leader because he can talk the talk and he could be capable of getting more young people to vote for them due to his sense of humour.

Haven't made my mind up yet.
I'll let you know who I did vote for after I have done it (I will be voting as I think its important to vote.)
Its a choice of four though, "the big three" and UKIP. No other candiates in my part of Britain.

I vote Labour. As RichBlaze mentions about the "If it ain't broke" theory, the country is not all bad. The public services could do with a bit more care but on the whole people have more of their own money in their pockets then when Michael howard was a government minister and people were more concerned with unemployment, high inflation, unstable economy and no minimum wage for youngsters. the Economy in my opinion is the most important building block to run and support a country and the Tories always manage to mess it up by tax cuts which only benefit those in the top brackets of wage earners. Also as a result the public services suffer like health. Think the complaints these days are bad, under Thatcher well over 50% of hospitals north of London (And many south of it) were just closed down. The NHS was virtually dead by the mid 90s and will take a while longer yet (Building, training staff etc) to get back to respectable levels of free health care for all.
Recently Howard found ONE example of an elderly lady who had been waiting longer than she should, the late 1980s/early 90s saw tens of thousands in the same boat due to cuts and too much red tape. Conservative policy is that the don't like the NHS because it wasn't their idea plain and simple. Much like the link to earnings on the state pensions

Monster Raving Looney party gets my vote, well it would if they were standing for election over here anyway. Anyone with a cat for a leader deserves respect.
