Are kids allowed in now, when I had a couple of Danish fans over a few weeks back we were told we couldnt come in because my 11 year old was with me and ended up going next door, who welcomed us,so clearly not licensing issues etc just that annoying British anti family attidude.
I found this so dissapointing as the Danes wanted to visit a proper pub with proper beer etc, and especially when you think my son has been to both France and Denmark to watch Hockey with me and never been refused entry to a pub.

It is a licencing issue I'm afraid. Next door is a restaurant and therefore subject to diffrent licencing laws.
I assure you we do not have an anti family attitude I myself have 2 children, who are 7 and 5. So as a mum I can completely understand where your coming from.
Here is what we are allowed to do: During food serving hours we are able to allow children in with a dining adult. Otherwise by law we are unable to allow children on the premises, we don't hold a licence for it and as we're a city centre pub with limited food hours we are unlikely to be granted one. (I did look into it some time back)
So on a Sunday purely for the hockey fans we extended our kitchens opening hours until 6pm to allow parents with children to be able to come in before a game.
I'm sorry that you feel disappointed by this incident, but our hands are bound by the legislation and laws we have to abide by. I hope the above information makes things clearer.

If it were up to me, chocice, bringing kids with you wouldn't be a problem, after all it is a family sport, but we do get spot checked, (only 2 weeks ago we had a suprise inspection of our licence), so we can't take the risk I'm afraid. The best I could do was open the kitchen til 6pm and hope that parents wouldn't mind forking out for some chips or a baguette. I know it is annoying, and frustarating and it seems that cause you have a child with you your being treated as as 2nd class citizen, or being discriminated against. I had the same problem a couple of years ago when the pre match bar was the orange house. The rules on children kept changing and a lot of the time we had no where to go before the hockey. I do sympathize with you, but as I said in my last post this is the best I can do. Fingers crossed it is enough. The bottom line is this, I'm a Blaze fan, have been for a fair few years now. My kids are Blaze fans, my friends are Blaze fans, I have even converted my fiance Robin. ;D Robin is the licencee of the Windmill and I live here, so I guess I'm a sort of land lady. So I thought why not make the Windmill a place where all Blaze fans could go if they want something other than a chain bar? We really don't have anything in Coventry, last season that american bar (New York, New York) came up with some good idea's that never came to fruition. So I have taken those ideas, made them work and built upon them as best I can. The Windmill is a great pub, it's good beer, it is not too expensive and it has a great atmosphere, amazing history (you know the building is over 600 years old). As far as I am concerned this pub is the best in Coventry (And I thought that before I lived here), and we are the best fans. When the pub is full of both home and away fans I am never worried about trouble starting (unlike other sports). So why not use that to our (the fans) advantage, give us somewhere great to go. I'm hoping everyone who has come here has enjoyed themselves, and I'm hoping that I'm doing a good enough job, and no one feels disappointed or let down as I have worked really hard on setting all of this up.

I think you are doing a wonderful job and anything that gets the fans a better name is great by me, god knows there is enough rubbish said about Blaze fans.
I think if you let away fans know where the pub is etc they are bound to come rather than those plastic pubs in the skydome complex.
I understand your frustrations abouut the licence and I wish you well in creating a real base for the fans near the dome, long may it continue.
