I think that Joel Poirier should be given the ‘C’ next season. He gives it his all each and every time he goes out onto the ice. He’s the heart and soul of the Blaze and he makes us tic and what an example he would set to all the new players who are rumoured to be on there way in. Plus he has previously captained Newcastle in the ISL.
That’s my view, who would you all like to see given the ‘C’?

I was actually thinking about this the other day...which is kind of weird cause I don't actually think that often.....but anyway Joel Poirier was who I thought should be the captain next season ;D

JP also captained Nottingham Panthers before coming to Coventry. Anyway yeah, I was prety surprised he wasn't made captain last season although Taz did a great job. Joel has to be a strong favourite for replacing Taz as captain this season and why not, he has all the qualities that you would want from a captain. My only concern is whether being made captain would benefit his own game or not. It would certainly benefit the players around him.

I'd go for Ashley Tait (if he re-signs).
Leads by example and you can see his passion.

JP is the man for the job. It depends who Thommo signs and releases but right now Joel is the best candidate out of the current Blaze roster.

It'd be great if jody got it!! lol but i think joel will get it unless we sign someone with good captain experience.

Considering that from the rumours we aren't going to have hardly any senior players from last season back, I'd have thought it would be between Joel and Tait.
My feeling for Tait would be based on the fact he was an assistant last year when Joel was overlooked.

Poirier was panthers captain but only for about half the season then they passed it on to PC Drouin.

pc drouin took over as captain from joel at the last play off game against belfast season 2001/02. pc was not captain for the last part of the season, he took over a bit when joel got injured when we played belfast in december 2001 he got slammed into the boards by jason bowan it was very nasty. but joel would make a great captain.

In my, somewhat skewed view, (assuming they all re-sign) there are three candidates...
Poirier: Has done the job before, successfully, at both Newcastle and Nottingham (and I think he captained his ECHL team in Hampton Roads?). Never-say-die attitude, works like a Trojan, and is a fans' favourite (especially among the females). Also hugely experienced and, as Mike Morin will testify, will stand up for his team-mates if required)
Tait: British (which will likely be a factor leading to him getting it), one of the franchise players for the club, and although I sadly haven't had personal experience of this, is apparently a true gentleman off the ice-good for PR purposes...
O'Brien (and not just because he's my favourite, Whiskey): Racks up a ton of ice-time, is a class-act ability-wise (and thus can lead by example), as well as off-ice, and has the respect of his team-mates and fans (how many awards at the end-of season party?....)
Looking at that, I'd say it's between Poirier and O'Brien--Tait would make an excellent A as he did last season, but C....maybe next year. They would definitely be my trio though-how you assign the letters is up to you..

From what I've heard, O'Brien is unlikely to be here next season.
Joel seems to quietly get on with his work, but I think we'd be better having a Tasker-style in your face captain again. I can imagine Taity giving players a rollocking and getting them going.

Out of the two we've got in the bag for next year Ashley is leading the way at the moment. I would expect Joel to re-sign and would be a strong candidate. I would hope that OB does the same but unfortunately I don't see it (Sorry PW looks like you'll have to purchase {or win} a different shirt)
Also with the exception of the ludicrous rumours circulating about John Craighead none of the other linked with names stike me as suitable captaincy contenders.
I think we need a few more names definately on the roster before viewing Tazs successor

I think ashley would make a good captain, but the most succesful captains are the dion darling type of captain (in your face). I don't think ash would be like that, so therefore, I don't feel hes quite ready for the job.
