Phillips back with the Devils.

Thomson Cardiff Devils are please to announce the signing of one of their own. Jonathan Philips, a product of the Devils well known and respected Junior Development system has agreed terms and will play for the Devils in the forthcoming 2004/05 season.

"It's always great to play for your home team with all the family around.

"I enjoyed playing for Whis last season and I feel he brought my game on a lot."

"I can relax and enjoy the summer now that everything has been sorted although we do try and maintain our fitness through the off season going to the gym every day and skating when ever we can."

With EIHL rulings surrounding British player requirements, this signing comes as something of a relief to Devils fans who had feared the quality young player may be tempted away from his home city. Phillips however has pledged his allegiance to the Devils and will again wear the Cardiff shirt.

Still only 21 Phillips' performance has improved steadily over the past few years and he is now considered a key player on the team. With statistics to rival many an import, 17 goals and 11 assists for 28 points from 54 games last season, Phillips is more than capable of holding his own against older more experienced players. Indeed he is thought by many to be the best skater in the league.

Head coach Dave Whistle has been speaking to a number of last seasons British player, fully aware of the importance of signing quality players as soon as possible. With the emergence of the new English League side to be run alongside the EHIL team Devils will have strength in depth this season.
