The semi finals will consist of a two leg home and away series with the winners progressing to the Challenge Cup final which will also be played over two legs. Group A Belfast Giants Sheffield Steelers Edinburgh Capitals Newcastle Vipers Group B Nottingham Panthers Coventry Blaze Cardiff Devils Hull Stingrays The first game of this year's Challenge Cup competition will take place on Sunday 6th September at the Skydome Arena Coventry between the Blaze and the Nottingham Panthers. Coventry head coach Paul Thompson said "It doesn't get a tougher start for us than Nottingham - a team we have had some great duels against over the last few years. The Challenge Cup is a major competition and one that all of the teams want to win. There doesn't seem an easy group this year and I think perhaps the competition is more wide open than at any other time I can remember."
