The late Michael Jackson may well have been a candidate but choosing from living people (or people presumed alive) only, who is the most famous person in the World? By this I don't mean most popular I mean the person who you think the highest majority of the World's population will have heard of.

I suspect a worldwide poll would probably come up with the result of David Beckham. I'd probably agree with it too, with the Pope a close second.

Was thinking about legends in modern day pop culture with world wide appeal, the likes of Simon Cowell, or cast of global hits like Friends or Baywatch. For a while back insanely it looked like Susan Boyle  |

The cast of Friends would be high up on the list for sure, but not really that near the top. Football and it's stars are known all over the world, whereas not all countries even have TV.

Global celebs don't need television exposure to be iconic. Even in poor countries where they have not got television (And shame on them) they are still known.
Was thinking some of the big NFL stars might be known worldwide as events like the Superbowl regularly get the largest global audience
