"Danny Stewart returns for fourth season with the Blaze ahead of 09/10 season
Coventry Blaze Head Coach, Paul Thompson has today confirmed that he has completed the re-signing of hugely popular forward, Danny Stewart for a fourth season with the club.
The thirty year old Canadian joined the club at the start of the 2006/07 season and has since made 216 appearances for the Blaze. In that time, he has scored 67 goals and added 97 assists for a 162 point total. He helped the club to win back to back Elite League titles in 06/07 and 07/08 and has also helped the team to lift both the British Knockout Cup and the Challenge Cup.
Thompson says the combination of Stewart’s experience and his high energy style of play make him an important member of the Blaze side.
“In the three years he’s been with us, Danny’s proved himself to be a winner. He’s shown real desire and determination to win trophies and as I’ve said many times, knowing how to win is a really important quality when I’m looking to build a side.
“We’ve a lot of new players again this season and I know I can count on Danny to really help the new guys settle in and he can play a big part in bringing everyone together as a team. That experience is so important. Not just experience on the ice, but also off it. Experience of being at the club, knowing how we operate and what’s expected. Experience of being part of a club that’s focused on winning.
“As a player, he brings us great energy and commitment. He’ll play wherever I need him to and he will always give you one hundred percent. He’s been a big part of this club for three years and I’m really pleased that we’ve agreed a deal that will see him in a Blaze shirt next season.”
“I am very happy to be returning to the Blaze for a fourth season,” said Stewart. ” Last year left us all a little unsatisfied and we had a feeling that we’d underachieved so it’s good to have the chance to do something about that. When Thommo spoke to me and asked me to come back, I’d already been talking to a few other teams, but after three years of mostly success and us being competitive, I didn’t want to get away from that. In the end it was a no brainer for me to come back to compete for more trophies and play for the best organization in the UK.
“I love playing in Coventry as I really believe our fans are the best in the country and with a fresh look to the team and some really good signings I’m more excited about starting this season than any other. And our fans should be too ! The summer break has given me the chance to take care of some nagging injuries that held me back once in a while last year and hopefully I can come back and play my game sixty minutes a night, every night. I’m going to be doing my absolute best to help get us back to championship winning form.”"
