Blaze bolster blue line with signing of American defenceman Brian Lee from Briancon
Coventry Blaze Head Coach, Paul Thompson has today confirmed that he has completed the signing of American defenceman, Brian Lee from the Briancon Diables Rouges of the French Elite League.
Twenty-four year old Lee spent last season playing alongside fellow new Blaze signing, GB International Greg Owen and helped his team to win the French regular season title and runner up spots in both the French league cup and play offs. He recorded 4 goals and 16 assists in his 38 games for the French side.
Hailing from Berrien Springs in Michegan, the 6’2”, 210lb blue liner was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and has since played over 150 games in the East Coast Hockey League for Gwinnett, Greenville and Stockton Thunder as well as a season in the American Hockey League for the Norfolk Admirals. He has further AHL appearances for both Cincinnati Cyclones and the Chicago Wolves.
Prior to turning professional, Lee, who will wear the number 5 jersey for the Blaze, spent five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Erie Otters where he helped his team to win the OHL Championship in 2002.
Lee is looking forward to continuing his European adventure with the Blaze
“I really enjoyed my first season in Europe and I really wanted to stay over here this season. I’m so pleased that the Coventry opportunity came up and I’m really excited to be coming to both the city and the UK. All the research I’ve done about Coventry has been positive and I want to be a part of it. It was good to be able to talk with Greg Owen about the hockey in the UK and also about the club and the organisation behind it. It made it a really easy decision for me and I can’t wait to join up with the team at the start of next season.”
Looks like a good signing.
