Are mascots needed at hockey or is this a case of trying too hard to copy certain elements from football?

My son Joe was mascot at a recent game and thoroughly enjoyed himself and from what he said, the team also 'like' to have a mascot. He certainly bought the Blaze some luck as they won the match. Joe is a member of the under-10s team and the experience was something he will remember for ever.
