From IC Coventry:
Pease part-time as Blaze experiment
Jun 16 2008 By Antony Hopker
JAMES PEASE will not be a full time member of the Cassidy Coventry Blaze squad next season.
The 26-year-old defenceman, who has made a record 631 appearances for the side, will be signing for a club in the English Premier League.
Pease will sign a two-way contract with Blaze, and is expected to join the club for the Continental Cup trip to Italy in November.
He will also remain with the Blaze in an as yet unspecified off ice role.
Coach Paul Thompson said Pease, who has played for him since he was a teenage, had been edged out by the singing of Ben O'Connor and Leigh Jamieson.
"They will bring us some size and mobility, and with Jonathan Weaver and Mathias Soderstrom returning I have one defence slot remaining, which will be an import.
"I will get my sixth or seventh players from our English National League side.
"Peasey will very much be a part of this hockey club but he will playing his hockey elsewhere next season.
"I've decided that we need to change a couple of things around. That's no reflection on him but we will be trying some new faces this year and I can only accommodate a certain number of players.
"I'm putting a lot of money into my forwards and there are good young players coming through. A few years ago we were very short of British defencemen but now there is real competition for places."
Please spent a year away from Blaze four seasons ago, playing for Milton Keynes Lightning, and returned from the two-way deal a more assured player - although he is yet to break his scoring duck in a competitive match for Blaze, a record that stretches back to 2000.
He has been on the roster for every trophy won by Blaze in both Coventry and Solihull, and also collected silverware in Milton Keynes, making him one of the most successful players in history.
This year he was awarded a testimonial and also played for Great Britain in the world championships.
