Blaze confirm next European Adventure

Bmibaby Elite League Champions, Cassidy Coventry Blaze have confirmed that they will be taking their place in the 2008/09 IIHF Continental Cup.
Blaze have twice taken part in the European competition - during the 2005/06 season where they played in Grenoble, France and last season in Aalborg, Denmark. Whilst Blaze failed to progress to the next round in Aalborg, Jonathan Weaver’s overtime slapshot ensured that the team returned to domestic action with the biggest scalp in their history – that of Austrian champions, Red Bull Salzburg.
Coventry are expected to be seeded straight into the second round of the tournament which will take place from October 17th to 19th. They will be drawn into a four team group with each team playing the others over a three game period with the group winners progressing to the third round in November.
The draw will take place on Saturday 14th June in Budapest, Hungary, which will be attended by Blaze Chairman, Andy Buxton and Head Coach, Paul Thompson.
“It’s a great competition to take part in,” said Buxton. “Everyone enjoys it – players, management and supporters – so once we’d qualified by winning the bmibaby Elite League, we were fairly sure we’d take up our place.
“It’s a great honour to be representing your country in European competition so we’re really looking forward to flying the flag for the UK again next season.”
