I thought you'd all like to read this, i got it from THF:
To be fair to Dave Whistle, that's a nice thing to come out with.
Press release
Thommo the man for the top job
Cardiff Devils coach Dave Whistle has tipped Paul Thompson as a worthy contender to be the Great Britian supremo when the job next becomes vacant.
The post is currently held by Chris McSorley, who takes charge of the side every year at the World Championships despite being based in Geneva.
But Whistle, who Devils side has been beaten nine times out of ten by Coventry Blaze this season, thinks Thompson has the calibre to take the job when McSorley decides to move on.
Making the comments in Thompson’s testimonial match programme, he said: “In my mind Thommo would be the prime candidate to be the GB coach when Chris McSorley decides to call it a day.
”He’s based over here, knows the talent and knows how to bring the best out of the players that would be at his disposal.
“I think he has done an excellent job with Coventry, getting them to the point where they are the team to beat in the Elite League.”
Whistle, who was ejected from his last game at the Skydome – the first leg of the Challenge Cup final, which Blaze won 6-1 before going on to win the trophy with an 11-5 aggregate victory – will be returning to Coventry as a player next week.
All the Elite League coaches are playing in Thompson’s All-Star side, which will be taking on the Blaze side on 9 March.
Blaze brawlers past and present Andre Payette, Kurt Irvine and Stephen Doyle will be the match officials.
Every returning player has contributed an interview to the lavish souvenir programme. Thompson has been awarded a testimonial to mark his tenth year with the club.
Thompson said: “I’m really pleased with the programme and I’m touched by some of the comments and recollections the players and coaches have made in it.
“It’s very kind of Whis to suggest that I be considered as a future Great Britain coach. There isn’t a vacancy so it’s not for me to rule in or rule out, and my focus is purely with the Blaze at the moment.
“It should be a really fun night and I’m really looking forward to it.”
