I also recall the rules being clarrified prior to the final so that overtime was not a seperate game and penalties would be carried into overtime The daftest part about the way it was done that night, is even if a player had received a match penalty he would have been able to return for overtime as any ban wouldn't come into effect until the following weekend by BNL rules.

Interesting couple of additions:
1) The league tried at one point because of this to try and get the Cardiff go back up to Dundee on the Tuesday night to replay the '3rd Game'... crazy!
2) On the day of our 1st leg @ Cardiff, THF was brought down by hundreds of posts of angry dundee fans and the forum was taken off-line all night...

I have heard that Dundee tried to petition the league for a 3rd match but didn't know that about THF. Wouldn't really have mattered anyway as at that point the Devils were a more formidable opponent to us and made for a more competitive final.

Just another Crazy chapter in British ice hockey. Tony Hand never has any luck against the Devils in cup competitions.
'He shot he missed he must be Tony Hand, Tony Hand, Tony Hand'

Cardiff vs Murryfield Racers in the 91 playoff final Live on BBC2
Goes to penalty shots after Steven Cooper equalised late int he third period for us. i think each team were on like their 21st penalty shot each (may be exaggerrated but both teams just couldnt be seperatred for ages) so Mcewen scores for the Devils and up steps Mr Tony Hand to take the penalty shot to keep murryfield in the final he shot...... He missed and the Wembley crowd goes wild (well the Devils end anyway lol)
Which is where we made the song 'he shot he missed he must be Tony Hand, Tony Hand, Tony Hand'

One of many Devils triumph stories that are told over and over again as they are so memorable others include the 12-1 playoff final thrashing of the Steelers ;D and the 5-0 semi final defeat of Manchester Storm in the 99 playoff semi final Manchester were dominant season up until that game
