I understand the format of the league and I don't have a problem with it. I don't understand the league format (perhaps someone can explain it to me.) Comparing it to football (which is the most popular sport, and still the one I follow the most) each team plays each other team twice (once home and once away) for the complete set of league fixtures. In Ice Hockey, Coventry play Hull, Dundee and Fife soon, but these 3 teams do not appear anywhere on the elite league, league table.

That's because they're in the BNL-the next league down (or across, depending on who you talk to)
Basically, those games are 'cross-league' and count for points in both league tables-two for a win, one for a draw or overtime loss. It's the equivalent of Championship sides playing Premiership sides in league competition...although slightly more complicated due to the fact that these games are played with a merger in mind...

Is there promotion/relegation like in football?
Also I'm sure there were 8 teams in the elite league last year, but this year theres only 7.

There is currently no promotion/relegation in ice hockey. Last year Manchester Phoenix were in our league but took a year out as they are waiting for a new facility to be built.
We play the seven teams in the Elite League three times home and away and the seven teams in the BNL one home and away. All points from both sets of games go towards the league total.

Right, I think I have got that.
So how do the playoffs work this year? Like how may times do they play each other.
Also where is the finals weekend of the playoffs?

Final weekend of the play-offs is the 9th and 10th April. I'm not one hundred percent sure of the structure of the play-offs but as soon as everything is confirmed it will be posted on this site (as all important info generally is!) Any more questions please ask.

Argh don't worry I will.
I have almost got to terms with the offside rule, and icing.
Is there a two line rule? (From Blue line to Blue line.)

Playoff Format, courtesy of Andy French...
=== "Richard The playoff format for the Elite League is as follows:
The team that is in 7th position on the 15th March will be eliminated from the playoffs.
The top six are then split into two groups, group A and group B, in group A the teams that have finished 1st, 4th and 6th and in group B teams that have finished 2nd, 3rd and 5th.
Each group will play the team in their group twice home and twice away. the top two teams in each group will then go to the play off finals weekend.

It virtually means that whomever wins the league will have the pleasure (?) of 4 games against the Racers in the play offs

At the minute, it's looking like a two team horse-race. Let's just hope that the Devils lose their two games in hand, and fall down the table, leaving the EIHL between us and Giants. Possibly a little early for comments like this, but it could well happen Wouldn't that just make for an excellent weekend in Belfast in March? As it stands, points wise: Giants 52 Blaze 52 Devils 47

I think the Devils still have a bit of life left in them yet with the Craighead factor, but you can rule out the wonderful pair from Sheffield and Nottingham in this years title race- It's our turn now guys
