The Rink Rush - News Update 22nd December 2004
A Very Merry Christmas to One and All from The Rink Rush Team!
The Countdown Continues
The Rink Rush was once something that we would be doing in the rather distant future – not any more. It is now just six weeks until we will actually be out there on the road.
We are currently working hard on attracting more support from clubs, players and fans, finalising the arrangements for the trip and raising individual sponsorship.
We recently had publicity photos taken by Dave Page, who is kindly supporting the event. Two of the pictures appeared in the programme at the Panthers v Edinburgh game on 25th November, along with an article about what we are doing. Thanks to Dave for his help and to the Panthers for featuring The Rink Rush in the programme.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the clubs, officials and players who have been in touch with us so far. We look forward to welcoming more clubs on board in the coming weeks.
New Corporate Sponsors
Since our last update, we have two new corporate sponsors. The first is Midland Mainline, who agreed to provide financial sponsorship for the event. They were joined by Crazy Kennys, the hockey equipment store, who will be our shirt sponsors and produce the special Rink Rush hockey shirts we will wear during the trip.
Thanks to both of these companies for their generosity.
The Rink Rush 50-50 Quiz
The quiz was won by John Hillier of Beeston, Nottingham who answered a staggering 191 of the 200 questions correctly. John scooped the prize fund of £190, with the same amount going to Cancer Research UK.
Thanks to everyone who entered the quiz. We hope you enjoyed taking part. If you would like to know your score and/or request a copy of the answers, please e-mail us on info@therinkrush.org.uk.
The Rink Rush Craighead Christmas Clearance
Our auction of memorabilia donated by John Craighead was a great success, and raised a total of £230 for Cancer Research UK. Thanks to everyone who bid, and we hope that those who were successful will enjoy the items they bought.
We still have a number of signed copies of the Powerplay magazine with John on the cover, these are available at a price of £5 each. If you would like one, just contact us.
Accommodation
We have now finalised our accommodation for the six nights of The Rink Rush.
Firstly, thanks to the The Failford Inn in Ayrshire for offering us a good meal and rooms for the night on Wednesday 16th February.
Thanks also go to Ian Braisby Translation Services and to Mr. and Mrs. Balm for sponsoring us for our accommodation expenses.
Itinerary
Our itinerary is now finalised, and a copy can be found on our website. Our overnight stops will be in London, Oxford, Belfast, Failford (see above), Dundee and Newcastle.
Sponsorship
With most of the practical arrangements in hand, we are now concentrating all our efforts on raising sponsorship. There are various ways you can sponsor us:
- Send a cheque payable to The Rink Rush to:
600 Moor Road,
Bestwood Village,
Nottingham,
NG6 8TE
- Donate online at Just Giving
- Find one of us at a Panthers game (our pictures are on our website and we normally wear a Rink Rush t-shirt at games these days) or in the Castle afterwards.
Publicity
The Rink Rush will be featured in the Hucknall neighbourhood section of the Nottingham Evening Post on 28th December. Thanks to the Evening Post for featuring the event.
If anyone works in the media and would be interested in featuring what we are doing, please call us.
