This will be interesting. With schueller out, it will be most likely either Tom Watkins or James Pease. Most likely peasey, he has performed ok so far this season, but with possibly a regular shift patrolling the blue line, it will be good to see him or tommy perform. Tough test without doug this weekend and possibly dependent on the length of schueller's injury longer. However lets just hope we pick up some good and valuable points this weekend.

From my watching of the Blaze lines so far, I'd say Pease will just be asked to play more, rather than moving Watkins back, as it'll disrupt the team less and he has already been getting a regular shift (usually paired with Belak) on the defence. However, keeping this pair would mean that the other pair (Martin and Mihalik) would be very attack-minded indeed-which may be a concern, particularly against the free-scoring top Panthers line of Clarke, Ivan and (I think) Cadotte. They would also be lacking somewhat in pure physical size (granted that Pav is a great hip-checker but his hitting on the boards is not the hardest in the league by a long shot, while Martin relies more on his superb reading of the game and near-perfect positional play rather than physical size). Schueller has played with both the offensive d-men in order to counterbalance them with his more defensive-minded style-he's been getting much more time with Martin, though, so we may see Neal moved to partner Belak on the top d-line with Mihalik and Pease forming the second pairing, and Watkins rotating where necessary. That's how I would work it, anyway-Peasey is more than ready for a regular shift at this level, and seems to prefer defending to being on the attack, as he can use his size and hitting ability to better effect. Sorry for the mini-essay..

No I agree that Peasey will be given more time this week. My main thought is to whether or not a temporary replacement to keep the numbers up might be an idea toyed around with if it looks like Doug will miss quite a few matches. Remember how threadbare our squad went at a similar point last year with injuries to the likes of Carps & Shuggy plus others. The squad was decimated at a crucial time simply because we were very short benched (Recall how long OB was on for in some games) and we never picked up momentum

The problem would be finding someone on equal or less money to Dougie, who'd be willing to play on the understanding it was short-term. Brent Pope on a two-way with Peterbrough, perhaps?

Bearing in mind it would (Hopefully) only be for a short time I think it would prove a worthy gamble. There are players available who are capable of doing a short term job. My fear is that stretching the D-men we have at present might mean that when Doug returns one of the others is slightly less than 100%

I think all the belak, mihalik and martin will all do the odd extra shift as well as peasey getting more ice time.

I don't think you can sign imports on a two-way contract anymore, as last season ended up rather daft for it. McEwen and Pope were both used to the advantage of teams and thats not what the two-way was brought in for, as this restricts the development of british players.
