.....and getting an image under your user name on the forum.
This is a step-by-step guide explaining how to upload imgaes to an image hoster and then post them on the forum.
How to post an image.
(NOTE: Since I wrote this guide Photobucket has changed slightly. The tutorial should still be clear however some of the pages may look different. If anyone does have a problem with any of it then let me know and I'll redo the tutorial for the new photobucket.)
The first step to posting an image on a forum is to upload the image to an image hoster.
I would recommend www.photobucket.com This is free and simple to use.
The sign up should be self explanatory, as should the uploading of images, however I will explain it just in case
Once you have signed up and logged in, you will see this page:
Then you need to follow these steps to find and uplaod the image.
1) Select "Browse"
2) Find the image that you want to uplaod, and click on it.
3) Once selected, press "Open" and the location of the file will appear in the space next to the "Browse" button.
4) Select "Submit", and the image will be uploaded onto the website.
Once uploaded, you will the image on the page.
Something similar to this:
The boxes/URLs beneath the image are the ones you need to post the image on the forum.
To post just the URL of the image, you need to copy the URL in the top of the 3 boxes and paste it into your post.
This will show up in your post a URL:
i38.photobucket.com/albums/e135/coolpickigloo/elite.jpg
To post the actual image on the forum, you need to copy the text in the bottom of the three boxes and then paste that into your post.
This will show up as:
If you later delete, or move this image, then link will be broken and the image will no longer show on the post. However you can edit the post to put the new URL of the image in.
To get an image under you username.
To get an image under your user name (an avatar) You need to follow the steps above to upload the image onto the photobucket account.
Idealy this image should be 100x100 pixels, however as long as it is square, and resonably small, it will still work.
Once you have uplaod the image, you need just the URL of the image (the top box.)
You need to copy the URL, and on the forum, you need to go to your profile. Once on your profile page, select the "Modify Profile" option on the top bar.
Once on the modify profile page, you need to scroll down to the "Personal Information" section.
Paste the URL of the image into the URL box. (Indicated on the image by the number "3")
You also need to enter the size of the image into the two boxes below the URL box. Most will need to be 100x100.
Note: Avatars can't be larger than 100x100.
If you would like some text under your avatar, you need to type it into the "Personal Text" box.
Once you have done this, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select the "Modify Profile" option.
After you have done this, the avatar will be under your username.
Hope this guide has helped any of you who had any problems uploading images etc.
However if you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask
