Whose got a ticket for this game? Its going to be emotional. Ironic that we are going into the game needing a win to guarantee safety. I'm personally going to try not to think about it being the last ever game at Highfield Road and just try to think of it as a game that we could do with getting 3 points from. Its going to be so weird walking out of the West Terrace after the game one more time though. I'm sure some City fans will be in tears lets just hope thats due to the occasion though and not the final result. Richard Shaw to score the winning goal would be fantastic but its more likley to be someone like McSheffrey which I guess would be fitting with him being a Coventry kid and all that.

Wouldn't have minded sampling the occasion of the last match but will be at the rugby instead for a crucial game.
As for the football well I think George Burleys boys will prove to be party poopers and get the 3 points they need for their play off quest. It is unfortunate for Coventry that their last game isn't against a mediocre side or one with nothing to play for. Derby to win by 2 clear goals

Well, at least it'll be the best stadium in League One... City are in the worst position, game wise, as losing to Derby will leave them in a position of needing to win on the last day. There's quite a mix of teams down at the bottom as Gillingham's last two are against Cardiff and Forest-I can see three points out of that-but I can't see three for City off Crewe and Derby-it may be others losing that saves City. Hope not though. Anyway, the chavs at Highfield Rd will want an excuse to start ripping out seats etc-a potential relegation deciding loss in the last game at the stadium should do them nicely Up the Rams!

Whats going to happen to the stadium? A set of houses.
Anyway the new stadium looks good. But Highfield Road has a lot of history, but obviously the move is for the best. Its important that the history shouldn't be forgotten though.
A new stadium has been long overdue. And the away end at Highfield Road isn't exactly the best.

Anyone notice I have changed my username on the forum. This is due to Coventry City being kind enough to name the new arena after me (well almost) for my loyal support over the past 19 years (well 10 if you start from when I first started going to games).
Anyway I think I am going to use this thread to post my best memories of Highfield Road on. Anybody else on here do the same good or bad.
Coventry City 2-1 Manchester City (August 1995) This game was memorable for me because it was the first time I ever saw City win. It was the first home game of the season and I had my brother's mates season ticket as he had gone on holiday. I was sitting in the East End. Paul Telfer the young Scot who had signed from Luton Town in the summer put us 1-0 up in the 12th minute, however Man City equalised in the second half. Me being a young lad who hadn't been to many football matches before blamed this on John Filan the City goalkeeper who was playing for us at the time as Oggy was out injured with a broken leg. Anyway Dion Dublin won it for us with a last minute goal. Surprise surprise it was with his head. I then stopped moaning about how rubbish Filan was and suddenly started shouting at the top of my voice that he was Austrailia's number one. I was a bit crazy when I was 9 although I didn't swear at all because my dad had scared me out of it by telling me I was on camera. After the game two seperate food and drink counters tried to sell me and my brother pepsi by telling us that Dublin and Ndlovu drank it. However I didn't buy off any of them. I brought some chips from the counter next to them.
More of my Highfield Road memories later.

Sorry for the double post but just realised a mistake in my last post. City's new arena will be called the Ricoh Arena and not the Richo Arena. So it isn't named after me afterall Who cares though? Whats in a name and all that? Lets All Sing Together Play Up Sky Blues

Although it may sound sick, my best memory was the Coventry City game against Sunderland in which Steve Froggatt got his career ending injury. I was sat right next to it, and i heard the crack as Nicky Summerbee completely took him out. It will always stick in my memory as i think of the lack of remorse on Summerbee's face, and the look on Froggatt's face which looked as if he knew that he was finished.
Another memory is asking Mart Poom (then of Derby County) for his autograph as he was, and still is, the number 1 goalkeeper of Estonia. I handed over my pen, got him to sign my programme, and he promptly walked off with my pen, and gave it to some kid behind his goal!! I was gutted, it wasn't gold plated or anything, but it was my pen, not as if he couldn't afford his own is it??
All this and i don't even like the City, the only normal reason i go anywhere near Coventry is to watch the Blaze. It's a dump, IMO.

I nearly had my pen nicked of a City player once. I think it was Dave Busst. I went down and asked for his autrograph, he signed my programme then about 50 other kids ran down trying to get their programs signed. I had to hang around at the front of the East End for ages waiting for my pen back and when I finnally did get it back it had near enough ran out.

My best memory of Highfield was watching Man Utd beat Coventry city 3-1. I was sitting with my dad in the main stand and the funniest thing was that it seemed although we were sitting in the cov fans area, everyone around me supported UNITED! Great game!

Coventry City 5-0 Blackburn Rovers December 1995 I actually watched the goals from this game on video this morning. I origionally had a ticket for Coventry City V Manchester Utd however I had been off school ill that day so my dad agreed to swap my ticket for me. I wanted him to get me a ticket for City's next home game against Wimbledon but he came home from the Man Utd game with a ticket for the next City home game after that against the then Premiership champions Blackburn Rovers. I wasn't to happy with him at the time because I wanted to go to the Wimbledon game that we had a chance of winning yet he had got me a ticket for a game that we had no chance of winning. He insisted to me though that I would enjoy the Blackburn game more as the game with Wimbledon would not be a very exciting match. Well he was wrong about the last bit because against Wimbledon we came back from 3-1 down with 9 men to draw 3-3 and I missed it Turned out that he got me a ticket for the right game afterall though because on a cold December Saturday afternoon on a pitch covered in snow and with an orange ball City hammered Blackburn 5-0. It was a result that came out of nowhere because City had only won one game all season prior to that. One of the goals was outstanding from Dublin when Kevin Richardson crossed the ball into the box, Dublin controlled it with his back to goal, turned and fired it in. Alan Shearer claimed the following day on TV that the poor result for Blackburn was due to the quality of the pitch but City had played extreamly well and deserved the win.

OK then.
Coventry City 0 v 2 Wolverhampton Wanderers. (November 2003.)
This game was the first and last game (infact only game) that I ever attended at Highfield Road. Sitting in the lower tier of the away stand about 6 rows up, nearer the goal rather than the half way line, about halfway in the row in the final or 2nd to last block. (I'm sure someone will know it better than I do.) Of course later that season we got promotion in the playoff final. Living in Coventry meant that I was able to walk to the ground. Arriving there at about 2:15pm we had a walk around the club shop (although nothing was bought) and then went quickly into our seats (I don't tend to hang about outside the stadium at football matches for that long.) We had already brought the tickets of Coventry City football club themselves rather than Wolves. Anyway as we got to our seats everyone in our section was standing up, the reason being is that no one would be able to see if anyone sat down (the wall is too high for the people on the lowest row to see whats happening on the near side of the pitch furthest away from us if they sat down.) Theres also not enough space between rows, and when me and my brother went to buy a drink at half time, the stall had closed, meaning there wasn't any place for us to buy any food or drink within the ground at half time. And the toilets at the away end are not very good either. As for the match itself Wolves won 2-0 with goals by Joleon Lescott, and Alex Rae.

All of which was in 1987!! So a club must win silverware on a regular basis to be able to boast a proud history. In that case I feel sorry for all the poor Bolton, Man City, Charlton, Birmingham, Newcastle, Portsmouth, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Norwich, West Brom (ok I don't feel that sorry for them) and Southampton fans whose teams have not won any major Silverware since the last time Coventry did.

Funniest goal ever seen there was scored by soon-to-be Villa legend against Newcastle United when DD had gone off the pitch neat the East Stand as the goalie rolled the ball on the ground DD nipped in and scored an easy goal.
The keeper was Shay Given giving rise to the quip that he was the only Irishman who didn't know where Dublin was

Main Standers do my head in. Fair play to them they sit in the most expensive areas therefore give the club more money but they could at least make a bit of noise. I'd be very surprised if many Coventrian Man Utd fans ever sat there because although there are a lot of die hard Utd fans in Coventry you would think they would save their pocket money for more important things than going to see their team play such as things like their "Cantona Is Inocent" t-shirts.
