My brother told me on Monday that he had read in one of the papers that the World was going to end on Wednesday (yesterday) as we were going to hit by an astroid. I thought nothing of it. However, in the early hours of Wednesday morning as I was about to go into my house I looked up in the Sky and saw an object, which I thought was a comet wiz past. My brother didn't see it as it went passed so quickly. I knew it wasn't a plane or anything like that 1.) because of its speed, 2.) because it left a sort tail behind it. I guess it could have been a shooting star but how often do you see them? Anyway I have just read on the Independants website that there was indeed a near miss and a astroid could have quite easiely have wiped out all life on Earth. I am prety certain (although I am no expert) that the object I saw wiz past was that astroid.

I guess it could have been a shooting star but how often do you see them? Shooting stars are actually quite common. As long as you know where to look and when that is. I don't how likely it is that it was the asteroid you saw. It would probably of had to have entered our atmosphere for you to see it, and if it did that, it hit somewhere. How big did it look?? compared to the size of a star

It went fast so quick I couldn't really give you much detail of it. Thinking about it the chances of it being the exact astroid that nearly hit the Earth that I told you about is really unlikley but its a weird coincidence.

Just looking up about it, it was at least a million miles away (close in space terms) but not visible with the naked eye. only a good telescope. It was also only visible in the southern hemisphere. It will be visible North of the equator in Oct. but still only with a good telescope. It also wasn't travelling that fast, if it were visible it would have been visible for a while, it would not have just whizzed by like a shooting star. Scientisits also knew that there was no way that it was gonna hit us, and it won't in the fordeable future either, so we are safe for now

I guess it could have been a shooting star but how often do you see them. try living in a village, with more or less no street lights and you will see loads of them.........in fact you can see quite a lot of things when you have the patience to just sit and stare into space. its all fascinating stuff.

You saw this in the early hours of Wednesday. On the way back from a late drink were we? ;D ;D Could it have been a plane I had just got back from London after seeing an abysmal game of football at Loftus Road, perhaps I think I saw this asteroid because I wanted something to happen to me so I could talk about that other than the match, but seriously I am sure I saw something. I did research on the asteroid that was mean't to hit the Earth and realised it couldn't have been that that I saw but it was something like that. An amazing sight if ever I saw one.

I had just got back from London after seeing an abysmal game of football at Loftus Road, This will be against the same side that Villa hammered last week then ;D This whole asteroid/end of the world situation has me thinking about how many times freaks have predicted the demise of the planet erroneously and for a varied amount of reasons. Many more sore in recent years with things like asteroids, super-bugs Y2J (whoops sorry Y2K) and other stuff like that

The main one I remember was when that guy predicted the World would end in 1999 and 7 months. He made the prediction hundreds of years ok and language has changed a lot since then. Most people in Britain didn't take it seriousy but apparently the Yanks were all running for the hills. How that would help I don't know. If the World is going to end you will die wherever you are. On a hill or not. Stupid Americans

I remember Argentinas goalie from the 1998 world cup retiring because he belonged to a sect that redicted the end of the world in 2000. I wonder what he's doing these days

I remember Argentinas goalie from the 1998 world cup retiring because he belonged to a sect that redicted the end of the world in 2000. I wonder what he's doing these days He (Carlos Roa) actually started to play professional football again for Mallorca in 2001 i think, you can just imagine him asking for his job back..........'Yes, i know i've been an idiot, but please can i play again......?' HAHA *Edit* Just found out that he now plays for Albacete.
