What about his great free kick, which met lampards het which met the back of the net!!!!
David Beckham is a great player and that was a good penalty.

How can a penalty that doesn't end up in the back of the net be a good penalty. Also how can a save where the goalkeeper hardly has to move be a good save. It was a save so I guess they all count but it aint like it was World Class and like I said before he was off his line. The best penaltys in the World are unstopable. Yes and Beckham's freekick was good but I didn't mention that. I never said he had a bad game I just said that he rushed the penalty and that he could have done better.
As far as I am concerned now the slate is clean until Thursday's game where he could play brilliant, score the winner and become a national hero, but right now I just class him as the England captain and will support him just for that reason.

I posted the same post 5 times and could only delete it 3 times, so I am editing the post that I wanted to delete.
Just for something to say, does Sunday's football score really need to be shown at the top on the forums home page. I think we all know the score. I would feel different about it if the result had been different but given the fact that England lost and taking into account the way we lost, having the result up just rubs salt into the wounds.

The goalkeeper did more than hardly move; he had to stretch up to save the ball.
Yep - I'm gonna put all the England scores on the News Fader, whether good or bad!

On my way home from college today I walked past The Primary School, dunno what the school is called, anyway the kids were on their break playing football in the playground. These kids were only 9 or 10. I noticed 1 lad taking a penalty at another and guess what player he shouted out he was "Zidane". What a shame that he wasn't pretending to be an England player. Whats the World coming to where young kids have French players as their footballing heroes. Anyway just for the record the penalty reminded me slightly more of Beckham's from Sunday rather than Zidane's. The kid blasted the ball, the goailie tried to move out of the way but it hit him and came out.

How do you get two world cups? In 2002 he played well throughout. The popular blame for the match against Brazil went to Seaman.
Also to lay the score to rest about 1998. Beckham was sent off (Of that we are all agreed) How did that cost the game for us? We would have scored if he had remained on the pitch I hear you cry. Good point... Well We did score in extra time through a header by Sol Campbell (Would have gone through on Golden Goal ruling) The goal was disallowed because Shearer was fouling their goalie Roa who had already missed the ball so, and i'll type this slowly to let it sink in. There was no need for Shearer to touch him.
Therefore members of the jury I ask you again to consider your scapegoat for failure to progress to the quarter finals of France 1998, where incidentally we would have been tonked by the Dutch who were on fire in that tournament.
By the way I would point out that I don't particularly like the Beckhams for all the hype about them but feel he was unduly and undeservedly chastised 6 years ago
You messed up the quote, I just tidied it

The real villian in France 98 was the referee cus he did make a lot of bad decisions, such as the disallowed Campbell goal, awarding the Argies a penalty an not awarding us a penalty when an Argie handled the ball inside the penalty area. Even sending Becky off may have been a bit harsh as Diego S did play act. Still at the end of the day if Becky never kicked him he wouldn't have been sent off.
As for 2002, Seaman is the man people blame for Ronaldinio's freekick but he was just beaten by a fluke. There 1st goal was down to Beckham bottling a tackle. The England captain shouldn't bottle 50-50's in the World Cup Quarter Final. No international footballer should.

It took 6 years, but finally I found someone who joins me in blaming Alan Shearer for France '98!
I was so happy for Sol Campbell when he scored the winner, and annoyed at Shearer for elbowing their goalie.
And all the time everybody was blaming Becks and David Batty.

David Batty had nothing to be ashamed of, he had never taken a penalty before but he had the bottle step up and take 1 for his country in such an important match. Fair play to the guy.
As for the Campbell goal, it should NOT have been disallowed. Yes Shearer did elbow the Argie keeper BUT it was not deliberate and it didn't intervear with play.

Sorry have to disagree with this. Shearer is the dirtiest player England have ever had. He always means to elbow or knock someone at set pieces. Also his aim on Roa was too perfect to be accidental. I also felt that when Shearer was in the side that we were too one dimensional and have improved immensley since he retired.
Also regarding the penalty debate, We have had two penalties given against Argentina in the last two world Cups for innocuous clashes with Michael Owen who did what forwards of other nations are reknown for (Klinsmann, Battistuta Pires et al) We conned the refs twice (And the second time it was the worlds best ref) So lets not get too upset they don't give us everything
I think in the main that looking for scapegoats when things go wrong holds us back in the long run, we should look at the positives, Ashley Cole Sol Campbell Frank Lampard Wayne Rooney
All of these players proved their class at Euro 2004 and now join Beckham, Owen, Gerrard Ferdinand & Gary Neville as mainstays for which to build a squad to have a good go in Germant in two years time. All we eed now is a goalie

I thought David James played well in all four games.

He doesn't seem to inspire gret confidence in his defence, but maybe we have been spoiled by a classic dynasty from Banks to Seaman whch has lasted for nearly 40 years. I would prefer to see Chris Kirkland used in the next two years to be ready for the world cup. He is probably our best at goalkeeping at present
