This Saturday sees the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. This year they have two semi finals beforehand for some reason.
Anyway just wondering does anyone actually like this event?
I can't ever recall sitting through any of the songs but to get avidly involved when it comes to the voting. For some reason it brings out a rabid xenophobic side of me, recalling all the historic wars we've fought against countries that don't ever vote for us, or shrieking about lack of gratitude for countries we've liberated in the past.
Terry Wogan always makes me laugh with his commentary of the whole shebang too.

The music might be good but the competition itself is a fix. I aint heard any of this years songs but I can bet that Great Britiain will give 12 points to Ireland and they won't give us any. Malta won't give us any either.

Malta normally always give us some points, last year was the only occurance when they didn't. also watch out for Germany and Turkey giving each other the maximum, and Norway and Sweden normally love each other too.

dont forget the worst two - greece and cyprus! (if theyre in it)
yeah half of the competition is politics and geography, but that must be what decides it because all the songs are equally bad ;D

The ols Soviet Satellite states and Eastern Bloc countries tend to stick together as well.
France always give us zip (Quelle surprise) however they're not in the final this year.
i've heard that Greece is the favourite

Ukraine won by a mile.
Greece and Serbia & Montenegro got the other medal slots.
United Kingdom finished 16th out of 24 with a reassonable points score. Took ages to get first votes but several voted for us after that

surely if we wanted to win as much as everyone else, we'd just have to enter someone like Busted, or maybe ColdPlay. EVERYONE loves them so that would be the best way to get the votes. but then again it just shows that we don't take it as seriously as everyone else in Europe. one more thing, who agrees with me when i say, it wouldn't be the same with out Terry Wogan, that guy comes up with some funny stuff!

Agreed Tel comes up with some stuff in jest which probably would go down too well with the starchy lot who produce the whole thing. He is right about block voting between, scandinavians, balkans & baltic states. Also Spain/Portugal, and Germany/Turkey
Loved the line when he said "I wonder how many votes Ireland will give us", In his blarney accent that was priceless

The Eurovision song contest is fixed. Not enough Brits live abroad so we aint getting points from other countries.
Even if Elton John wrote and sang a song for us we still wouldn't win. Its a fix I tell you.
I don't know how we won it in 1997.
