Well bit of a damp squib is the rough stuff is what you were looking for. Devils won by playing the best. Solid at the back and dangerous up front.
Jody spoke to me in the bar after and said that trying to break through their 6 D-men (when we only had 4- his words not mine) meant that they had the better options in this game.

Different Blaze team tonight, didnt try and goon it up and on a hockey game i thought the Devils were really ahead, Looked like Payette was playing with an injury though.
Considering Cullen was an ECHL player i thought he put the AHL players you have up front to shame tonight he was buzzing all night and his finishing was top drawer.
Be interesting to see how the Blaze play it next week i just hope your away fans make more noise than the home ones it was like a morgue in there tonight even block 2 only started singing when you were winning

Block 2 was fairly noisy last night, not quite as noisy as the Steelers game last weekend but then again the whole arena was making noise then. The Sky Dome is like a liabary at times though, thats why I am concidering going to more away games from now on and less home ones.
As for the game itself, Devils really turned it on and played some very good hockey, especially in the 3rd period. They are probably the best team I have seen at the Sky Dome so far this season and I have seen us play against both Nottingham and Sheffield. Blaze didn't play to bad although at times we seemed to lose our discipline. It wasn't the rough game that I expected but I suppose both teams have changed their rosters quite a bit from last season so there isn't the history between certain players. I don't know who got Man Of The Match for Blaze because I left almost straight after the buzzer but I would probably have given it to Ashley Tait.

Not the game i was expecting to see, i was expecting (as i'm sure most of the skydome were) to see another rough encounter with our good old rivals, the Cardiff Devils. Instead we got a fairly decent hockey match, Devils outplayed us from the equalising goal IMO. I have to say well done to the Devils for last nights performance though. I can assure you though, blaze will be out for revenge this coming weekend Come on the Blaze!

Considering Cullen was an ECHL player i thought he put the AHL players you have up front to shame tonight he was buzzing all night and his finishing was top drawer. What "AHL players" ? We've got a couple of fringe AHL/ECHL players but that is it. Cullen looked good but as did Calds, Danny C and Big Mac. I don't think there has been much difference between the two side over the two league games except we had the bounce in the first and you had it in the 2nd.

Considering Cullen was an ECHL player i thought he put the AHL players you have up front to shame tonight he was buzzing all night and his finishing was top drawer. I do agree that Cullen was the best player on the ice last night, but only as he showed a clinical edge that the Blaze lacked in the offensive zone. I don't think Calder, Carlson or McNamara had particularly good games either. IMO for the 1st half of the game both team matched each other really well. What was our best line of the night for the Blaze (3rd line) then showed some of what seems to have been lacking at times from the top lines, Peasey and Watkins doing really well along the boards to supply Cowley the chance for his goal. After that the Blaze seemed able to create little in the way of scoring opportunities as the Devils stepped up the play in the 2nd scoring two good goals. We were unfortunate to go in level after Burgoyne lost his edge allowing Carlson in and Calder to score. IMO the Blaze looked lacklustre in the 3rd and hardly created anything. We also started turning the puck over on our own blueline meaning a lot of pressure at times. Cardiff definitly the better team and rightful winners of the game. As for Rob Davison, overall I was a little disappointed. The guy was great in defence, his positional play was excellant and his use of the stick to cut down the passing lanes was great. I can however see why he is a role player (defensive defenceman) in the NHL as he seemed to offer very little going forward. He also seemed to spend a lot of time tracking certain players which wasn't necessary. Personally I would have Neal Martin ahead of him, simply for his all round game which is much more useful in our league rather than a role player. It will be interesting to see if Davison can develop more offensive skills as the season goes on as if he can contribute more at the offensive end he will be a great player in this league.

I was talking about Payette,Carlson and Mcnamara in particular when referring to the AHL al three have had an extended taste of North Americas Second best league whereas Cullen has had 1 game in his career.

I'd agree that luck does play a major part in how far you get up the US leagues. Payette was there because he was an enforcer but there are plenty of ECHL players who look excellent and plenty of AHL players who look less impressive.
JAC is right about Davison. You can see he is a good player but is hardly head and shoulders above anyone else I've seen at the Skydome this season. There is a veyr thin line between "making it" as an NHLer and earning $1/2 a year and being a middle AHLer and earning sod all.

Davison isnt visably the Best player on the ice. But look at our results since he arrived.
Sheffield-Lost 5-1 (Had Stone and Becker out and Davison had just stepped off the plane)
Edinburgh- Won 6-3 (played with 3 recognaised D men)
Dundee-Won 6-1 (again three proper D men)
Hull-Won 3-1 (3 D men again)
Basingstoke-Won 3-0 (3 D men for this Rink Cup encounter)
Nottingham-lost 4-1 (5 D men Nottingham were quite simply better than us)
Belfast-won 5-0 (only stone missing from D)
London-Won 1-0 with such a tight score line all our D men needed to show up.
Coventry-won 4-2, Against you guys who were unbeaten at home i thought it was our mistakes from ~Stoney and Burgy that gave you guys your goals other than that D was solid

Just to me two penneth in ,it shows the higher standard of the league this year that you get an nhl player in and he doesn't look that special good but not great. On the night i thought it was a good game devils deserved it but we had a few players off the pace for once .
