Apparently Mel Angelstad has been banned for 6 games, for what he did to Hutchy up in Newcastle. Is this a good enough punishment, or should he receive more?

A 6 game ban will hurt him and the Vipers but it was never going to be a longer ban unless he roughed up a ref

i'd say more of a 10 match ban, but if its 6 i should hope newcastle will have to pay of fine of some sort

i think 6 games plus a fine would be enough as Hutchins survived his injury, he played the next day probably more out of pride though im sure the stitchings hurt

Yes 6 matches is probably all he would have got anyway.

agree, i dont think a 6 game match is enough, a fine aswell from him and the club i think (its not fair he shouldn't pay one as he did it, not the team)...
mind you, with the police having been involving i think this will be changed once the tapes are completly reviewed by both the elite league and the police if needbe

It would also depend on how the Vipers choose for him to serve his ban what could they do in order to keep all fans happy? im so happy il never be a coach, the pressure they must have is unbearable... mind you im going to be a primary teacher... i wonder what would be worse, having to control an upset angelstad or a class of 30 upset children...

I can upset young children easily (By telling them the truth about Santa) but would find controlling an irate Anglestad easier ;D

6 matches is just the initial ban going on evidence put forward by the match officials. I have read that the Elite League are going to also review the incident and ban Mel for longer if they see fit. I didn't see the incident so can't comment, but I'm sure the league will deal with it professionally. I'm just glad Hutch is ok,,,He's a top player and a top guy.

8 match ban and a public apology-
PERSONAL STATEMENT BY MEL ANGELSTAD “I deeply regret my actions last Saturday evening; actions which resulted in an opposing player sustaining a head injury from my stick.
“While I accept that my career has been built around playing tough hockey, this is not something I would normally do, and it’s not something I am proud of. I reacted badly to a situation.
“I have let my teammates down, I have let the management down and I have let the fans down. For that I am sorry.
“Finally, but most importantly, I would like to apologise to Coventry’s Jeff Hutchins. I am pleased he has made a recovery and is playing hockey with the Blaze again.
“Prior to this incident I was enjoying my hockey with Mobilx Newcastle Vipers, and I look forward to returning to action and helping the team on the ice.”
