Why were 3 teams entered in 1999?
Seems like history is against us

Back in ye olden days, (well 6 years ago), the Conti cup was a MASSIVE comeptition.
As you can see this year it was: (all groups of 4)
First Round: 2 groups Second Round: 3 groups Third Round: 1 group SuperFinal: 1 group
back in 1999 it was:
First Round: 6 groups Second Round: 6 groups Third Round: 3 groups SuperFinal: 1 group
Why? Well basically the Finn's and the Swedes complained over TV rights/money and withdrew from the bigger competition the European Hockey League. Without the money that generated the knock on effect was to seriously scale back the conti cup.
Oh and to answer your question Cheif, both Sheffield and Cardiff hosted groups.

Traditionally, the reporting for results of the 1st round is very very poor, something will probably be put up on the IIHF site Monday, Tuesday ish.

Looking at the group that CH Jaca have been drawn in now, i fear that they may be thumped quite a lot.
Still, fair play to the Spaniards on qualifying.........
