Somebody has posted on the Elite League forum saying that "the legend that is" and the "Wayne Gretzky of British Ice Hockey" Tony Hand is hanging up his skates and that his game for Giants against Bison last night was his last. I havn't found any official article about this and it sounds a bit strange to me that he would retire in the middle of the season when he is playing well and his team are still challanging for honours.
Can anybody give me a link to confirm he is retiring or post to tell me that it isn't true.

I think it's a rumour that's going round, i wouldn't believe it until something official is posted. Some Bison fan posted on THF saying it, but the majority of people aren't taking it seriously (i'm guessing it's just wind up)
Hope that helps!

I can't see him retiring for a while yet as he still has that competitive fire in his belly

Nah I just think the person who posted that thread felt like being annoying.

Especially when he is still registering loads of points every weekend According to www.eliteleague.co.uk... he has registered 14 goals and 35 assists for 49 points so far this season...top points scorer I know that sometimes that website isn't exactly correct but the figures aren't far wrong...that still very very good He's not going to retire yet!!

I'm glad that is cleared up. I think Tony Hand is the only non Blaze or X-Blaze player that I make the effort to applaud when they come onto the ice for warm up and after the game. I sometimes applaud the opposition team but thats mainly just to show sportsmanship, whereas I applaud Tony because he has been an outstanding ambassador for British Ice Hockey. Long may his playing career continue.
