Rob Davison

Right then, we've now just played Cardiff in back to back games and I want to know peoples views on Cardiffs NHL player Rob Davison.

Personally I have been very dissapointed in his all round game. He was mostly very good positionally and at getting his stick in the lanes as well as clearing the net, and seemed to do the basics very well.

However, his passing was erratic and offensively he looks a bit lost at times. (I know he scored last night, but he was following up the play and the puck had sneaked lose in the crease for a tap in) He only has 1 goal and 1 assist in 9 games.

At times last night his positioning let him down as well, at one point he could have been called several times before eventually being called for interference on McNamara who had gained position against him.

We didn't really see any big open ice checks from him, which is supposably one of his strengths, and he seemed rattled by Pavols check.

There is certainly no way I would pick him over Neal Martin as he has a much better all round game and boy did he clock up some minutes last night. At one point I think he did about a 3 minute shift headed to the bench for 30 seconds and was then back on the ice again. Not too mention the fact he was on the ice the entire time that Vrabel and Mihalik were in the box and no Schueller, so was partnered by Pease and Watkins.

To repeat the chant aimed at Davison last night

NHL your having a laugh!!! Certainly shouldn't be on the 2 performances I've seen.

I agree with you and I don't think it is a great surprise.

Davison is a 7th defenceman in the NHL. He is a defensive defenceman. He is't expected to have any offensive skills. He has good positional sense and can check well (the things required to play his role in the NHL) but offensively he is poor.

I think he is overhyped. The guy isn't a match winner and I'd certainly take Marty over him and maybe even Pavol because of his overall game. In the EIHL, you need all you players to contribute and as good as he is in defence, another player will make mistakes and it will be a goal. He is probably the best player of his position in the UK but you don't need players like that in this league IMHO.

Seems this thread is going to be a proper hockey discussion rariety on Forums these days.

I like Rob Davison immensly, the guy cares about every shift, much like Martin puts in a hell of a lot of minutes every game.

Last night we were up against it and the driving force that was going forward just trying to salvage something for us was Davison he was the only one who gave 110% for us last night and every night.

Think its a bit harsh to say his positioning was wrong last night several times in the second period i noticed (as i was closer to our defensive zone) he cut off the shooting lanes and broke up attacks frequantly.

of course his performances are going to be scrutinised because he is from the NHL but he is only one guy and with so much hype surrounding him when he was signed could anyone possibly live up to it?

Would the real Rob Davison please stand up.

Last week at the Skydome he was very calm and super composed and had a massive influence on the result

Last night he seemed to get incredibly rattled by the Blaze fans getting on his case and made a few basic errors (Goal apart) that seemed in complete contradiction to his performance 6 days prior

Agreed he didnt have his best game saturday, but for me he was trying to win the game on his own while the rest of our Defense looked uninterested especially stone and Becker who had their worst games for a long time

If these NHL guys are still here come the play offs then i think the class will show through and the fur will really start to fly.
