Apparently, the Hockey Gladiators tournament due to take place in Winnipeg has been cancelled due to the threat of prosecution.
Hopefully this now means the end for this event, not the kind of publicity that the sport needs.

I don't think there is any harm in it. Also old school hockey does bring in the fans! I for one love it when the gloves come off, passionate hockey rules!
Also if Craighead is injured for the start of the season I wouldn't be complaining!

When the gloves come off in a game thats ok its all part of hockey but gladiators is a new ball game just two blokes punching hell out of each other for money,not what we want for our great game.Ime all for it being cancelled

I do understand exactly where your coming from! Its also not just for money, its so they will be considered the toughest hockey player around, for more respect, for their ego's. I just personally feel if it is their own choice (which it is) then their is no harm. I mean hockey is already considered and sport full of fight's- its a stereotype that doesn't look like it will go away! So what's the problem!  |

I guess if they were suitably padded up it would have some novelty value, however i heard it was pretty much going to be a bare knuckle fight which doesn't do the games image much good.
Besides if there were any hockey players who wanted to fight then why wouldn't they take up Boxing?

I have never seen this Hockey Gladiators thing but it sounds quite good. And I have to say that I absolutly love it when the gloves come off in a game.

Exactly where I was coming from, with the possibility still of Bertuzzi being prosecuted I would have thought that a contest like this was not positive promotion for the sport. |
