OK I enjoyed the film, but a little disapointed with the ending, was expecting it to follow the book, and no I didn't really think Willy Wonkas father being in the story added too much to it. Plus they should have got in the great glass elevator to finish off like in the book.
The Oompa Loompas songs matched what was in the book (although they had been shortened.)
Anyone that has read the book will know what the story is so I won't go on about it (I guess most people know the basic story.)
Overall I enjoyed it though. So I think a solid 7.5/10 will do fine.
Could they do a film continuing with Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.

The original is much better - the new version did not add anything new.

This one was more based on the book. But yes the original will always be a classic.

Yet to see the new version but cannot believe that Johnny Depp is remotely as good as the superb Gene Wilder was in the original

Both films are good for different reasons.....can't really compare them.
They are both enjoyable films and IMO they are both quite different.

sorry to bring this one back up, but i watched the film a few days ago, and didn't find it half as good as the original, to re-release willy wonka with Johnny Depp, i feel if anyone could do it he could, as he is a great actor and very flexible, but after people seeing him in POTC 1 & 2, i felt he tried too much to live up to expectations and didn't really do Wilder justice, as Gene Wilder was perfect for Wonka, Depp tried to play the part too hard and maybe lost it a bit at times, but also they missed out one of my favourite lines of all times in films: Mrs Glup: save some room for later augustus i was expecting more of the book than there was in the original, but i thought there should have been bits in the original that should have been kept. 7/10 and me being nice as it is Willy Wonka
