Black Country Rumour?

Anyone heard anything about ice hockey coming to the Black Country?

Back when Thompson owned the Albion he planned a new ground with hockey facilities and looked to create a team but that all fell apart when he went.

A new ice rink, that is meant to be state of the art is being built in Oldbury (junct2 M5) by SavaCentre if you know it and about 5mins from my house!!! Rumour has it ice hockey might be coming there??? Tough one for me because I love the Blaze now and if the rumour is tru will have to drive past an arena to get to a the Blaze!!! I hope i it is true its an ENL/EPL team who I can watch whilst the Blaze are away. However the fan base is massive esp if you could get Albion, Wolves, Walsall and Villa fans all in the same arena supporting the same team!!!

This rumour might also interest Blaze staff as a number of fans like me come from the Black Country

If that were to happen, I think I would have to stick with Coventry Blaze.

Potentially this could be good for the Blaze, as a decent local rivalry could attract new fans. Theres a lot of rumours about new teams being formed though, Brighton, Liverpool amongst others, plus theres rumours of London returning as well as Guildford, Bracknell and Dundee wanting to join the Elite League. The Elite League is only really big enough for 12 teams at the most IMO.

Some friends are doing some digging but I heard today at the match the building work has hit some problems. This is a move to diversify Black Country sport though what with the Heathens return to speedway on the horizon (not to soon!!!) so it might be true!

You can never rule such a thing out of course, but as Rich has said theres always new plans to build one. Until something more definate than someone saying: "I have a plan" is put in place, I don't believe it.
