From the Coventry Telegraph:
Pumped-up Perras is gunning for trophies
Jul 23 2008 By Antony Hopker
NEW Cassidy Coventry Blaze netminder JF Perras is keeping busy in the gym and on the ice as he prepares for a new set of challenges.
As the man between the pipes for Edinburgh Capitals he faced a lot of shots as the Scottish side battled their way into the playoffs.
Capitals and Perras lost to Blaze in the first round of the season's final tournament, and also came off second best against Paul Thompson's team in the British Knockout Cup semi-final. And he revealed that he is relishing the chance of competing at the other end of the league with the defending champions in Coventry.
"The challenges and goals are much different." he said. "Our goal last year was to make playoffs. We achieved that. This year our goal is to win it all. I like that goal a lot - I've been looking forward to it since the day I signed.
"Not every player gets a chance to take part in such a high-class organisation. I am really pumped to be part of the team and get the opportunity to take home the some silverware."
Perras's virtuoso performances against Coventry were one of the key reasons that Thompson snapped up the 27-year-old. And Perras is looking forward to watching the Blaze onslaught from the other end of the ice, particularly with the strength of the powerplay.
"It was really hard to play against the Blaze last year. I remember one game in Coventry I was scored on six occasions just on the powerplay.
As a goalie, you can't forget things like that. The Blaze are also really good in keeping the puck out of their zone. We played in our zone three-quarters of the time some game - at least it felt that way. Their ability to move the puck and execute was top notch. They didn't shoot just for the fun of shooting.
"But like I said, for me the big thing was the powerplay. Coach Thompson also had a big impact I believe. He analysed us well and made sure his players took advantage of our weaknesses."
With just over a month until the players assemble for the pre-season preparations, Perras is making sure he is in good shape.
"I've been on the ice and in the gym now for some time in order to prepare. I think our preparation in our two week training camp will be most important. "We get the chance to get together earlier than some teams which goes to show just how serious and important winning is.
"I expect to be coming to camp in good shape and being consistent from the beginning to the end. It will be a fun year and I expect keeping the ball rolling in Coventry and be able to share the success with my team-mates and fans."
