We have loads of different creatures living in the pond that they eat - bloodworm, daphnia, waterboatmen, even pond skaters if they get too slow. They've also be known to take a munch on any spiders, bugs or worms that end up in there.
They ain't short of food - they are fairly big too so seem to be getting all nutrients they need!

My goldfish has been floating a lot since we got him so we cut his food down to 4 granules per 2 days as appose to 4 a day....and when we first got him, a little pinch in the morning and a pinch at night (no good) He seems happy now anyway!

Sounds like it could be swimbladder disorder. Try fasting him for a few days if it carries on/happens again, then perhaps feed him peas for a few days after that (just the inside part of the pea though, not the skin. Don't need to be cooked either, just stick them in some hot water for a mintute or two)
