So Coventry is cool because of a band containing one Coventrian, one Mancunian and a Brummie (well, Balsall Common is practically Birmingham . Come on people...it was just about cool in the two-tone years-which made people forget just what a depressed, strike-ridden, dank concrete-filled hell-hole it was. Whereas today...it's STILL a dank concrete hell-hole-try the Skydome complex on a Saturday night at kicking-out time... Just now with chavs who smash up or graffiti any attempt to make the place better. Sure, there's a few famous people who've come out recently, but I guarantee the NME people have never had to ruddy live here... And this is the view of someone proud to be a Coventrian... Tell you what-as soon as Coventry has a proper rock club and not just a load of drinking dens for chavs and the odd decent city-centre pub (Campbell and the Golden Cross), THEN I might change my mind.

Three AAlborg fans are coming over for the Edinburgh game in early December and in a recent E mail they asked me to describe what Coventry was like, I tend to agree with PW description, but anybody like to put a more positive spin on the place in less than 50 words.
Only thing I said to them was glad I didnt have to live in the place and one visit a week for 6 months a year is plenty for me

excuse me but Mancunian? and which one are you referring to there? I think you'll find one is originally from Birmingham but moved to Coventry a few years ago, one is a definate Cov lad and yeah, the other one used to live in Balsall Common.
Mancunian? pff....
Personally I think Coventry is a pretty naff place to live but I'd probably find most places boring after a while.

Coventry isn't that bad. Must admit, I am more proud to be from Coventry than ever before. I think Coventry has character

Personally I think Coventry is a pretty naff place to live but I'd probably find most places boring after a while. Didn't you tell me Tom was a Manc? Or am I making up selective memory because we were walking through a subway at 5am and I was tired... Maybe it's just his singing snarl which makes me think he's Mancunian-he can go very Liam Gallagher at times... I shall likely be completely wrong here, but I've always been convinced that Tom was the non-Coventrian, Liam was the proper Cov lad and Andy was somewhere in between... Anyway-Coventry in 50 words, with a positive spin (real meaning in italics) "Coventry is a historic British city ( read-falling down) rebuilt post-war in a contemporary ( concrete and ugly) style with one of the best known cathedrals in the world. ( partly because, even ruined, it's a beautiful building, partly because the Germans flattened it.) Its people are genuine and hard working ( those who don't just hang around the city centre all day and visit the jobcentre as a social activity) with a (mostly) knowledgeable and passionate group of hockey fans. Nightlife is vibrant ( if you like R n'B/dance music) and there are some beautiful areas to walk around.( in the rare occasions there's not someone trying to fight or drop-outs and chav kids harassing you). One word too many...and it sounds a bit tourist-brochure-y. Best off giving them local knowledge...In which case: Best pubs: The Windmill (Spon St), The Golden Cross (Bayley Lane, by the cathedrals) Best places to eat: The Phoenix/Whitefriars (both Jordan Well) The Greyhound (by the canal at Hawkesbury Junction). Best hockey pub: The Orange House/Mortimers (whatever the sponsorship deal says, this is the "Blaze" pub pre-match... Best places to go out: Friday-The Phoenix/The Dog and Trumpet/ Saturday: The Skydome complex if you don't like rock...otherwise there isn't anywhere, really...

I'v only been to the Dog & Trumpet once, they had a good band playing called The Russian Gun Dogs. When talking about the best bars/clubs, Jumping Jacks deserves a mention.

The "Blaze" pre-match bar is Old Orleans which is a good little bar.

Coventry does have quite good nightlife. I do get a bit bored at times but thats due to going to the same places week in week out. It would be the same in any city. Thats when I usually decide to have a few weeks of going down the local with my dad instead, and one thing about Coventry is that its full of top class local pubs.

Any coolness must have been wiped out with the news that the only "stars" that would come and switch on the Christmas lights are Samanda How tacky are they

As one person on the board who has lived in two different places, I wouldn't say theres a lot of difference. Life is umiltately what you make it anyway, the types of people who say "theres nothing to do" well you don't often hear that from people who don't get into trouble.

Can't disagree with that.
