me too, but if we made the semis we would earn a fair of cash from the cup-run so i'd be happy about that, and theres no shame in being beaten by arsenal, chelsea or man united

I am trying not to think to much about the FA Cup right now. If we lose to QPR next week we could be in the Championship relegation zone. After the QPR game though whether we win, lose or draw all I will be going on about is the Newcastle game and hopefully the Elite League Challenge Cup final if Blaze make it.

Nah mate, the Uefa Cup place for winning the FA Cup would go to the team that finnishes 6th in the Premiership. Spot on, they have abolished the ridiculous situation that had last years Millwall vs Sunderland semi final as being for a European spot. If this occurs this season then the 6th place in the league will get the Europe placing. Same as for the league cup which means an extra league position unless Watford win it

They havn't changed the rules anyway. No team has ever been able to get into Europe just for getting to the FA Cup semi finals.

cheers for clearing that up. i didnt know they had changed the rules my bad Yeah it had got to a silly point where teams were getting into Europe for being lucky in only 4/5 games which is silly compared to a team which does consistentally well over 38. Shame it wasn't implemented last year as Villa would have benefitted

My team (Wolves) have Arsenal in the 4th round.
No I'm not going (I won't be able to get a ticket.)
We're favourites to get knocked out, but its the FA Cup so you never know.

Wolves? WOLVES?!! I thought that was illegal? Although since I am a Gillingham fan, I can't really talk-my side aren't even remaining in the cup. But then, nor is Whiskey's...

They havn't changed the rules anyway. No team has ever been able to get into Europe just for getting to the FA Cup semi finals. No one has yet but it has been possible, For instance if 3 of the semi finalists were to be Chelsea, Arsenal & Man Utd (Top 3 in the league let's assume), whilst Rotherham played Torquay in a 6th round replay the winners would get that European spot just by getting through. It is a loophole that has been tied up rather than in reaction to past events. Which is the right thing to do in my opinion. And PW- As a Gills fan won't you have an extra cup to go for next year with that LDV one or whatever it is called these days ;D A17Z wrote that there was no shame in getting beat by the big teams, well what about this list Colchester Rochdale Tranmere Scarborough Luton Sutton United Northampton Sheffield United....nah scratch that last one

You missed Gillingham off the list when they were in the old Division 2 and we were in the Premiership.
We've got Newcastle this year though and we are going into the FA Cup tie as the underdogs for once, so you never know it could be our turn to course the surprise. Got my ticket today. The coach journey won't reach the same noise levels as our trip back from Nottingham last night but at least I will have the chance to get a good kip and then get to see a game at that magnificent stadium St James' Park. And to top it all off the 3000+ City fans making the trip are finnally going to get the chance to give Craig Bellend some abuse.

I know I have double posted but I didn't think I should start a new thread on one game of football.
Well it wasn't to be for City today. We didn't disgrace ourselves but in fairness Newcastle were a different class. They had so much more pace than City. Luke Steele kept us in it early on in the first half with a number of good stops and two fantastic saves. Once Newcastle went 2-0 up though I thought that they would end up putting five or six past us. City battled though and Stern John had a goal disallowed for offside but then Dele Adebola headed home just before half-time to send the City fans mental and to give us a bit of hope. Adebola had came on as sub in the first minute for Andy Morrell who had got injured more a less straight from kickoff. I feel sorry for him because in the program it had about how it had always been his dream to play at St James' Park. Newcastle's third came early in the second half and from that point the City fans just enjoyed themselves, singing Twist & Shout for 10 minutes non stop. I was actually well surprised because even though we were 3-1 down and even though Newcastle had over 40,000 more fans there than us the City fans completly drowned them out. And I always thought Newcastle had the loudest support going. The Mexican Wave also went across the City fans and a small section of the Newcastle fans joined in.
So overall it was a good day out. Even though we didn't win we made Newcastle work for the victory. My only complaints our that Giddings gave the ball away to Bernard for their second goal and for the thrid the player should have been stopped. But like I said Luke Steele played a blinder. Also even though I said that I would have been disapointed if Bellamy didn't play before the game I am glad he didn't now as if he did the atomosphere wouldn't have been as good as the City fans would have just abused him all game rather than supporting the team.
Words cannot describe how fantastic St James' Park is. We were so high up and the view was out of this World.
Hopefully Newcastle go on to win the cup now although I am going to be putting money on Chelsea to beat Brum tommorow so hopefully they can pull it off and book their place in Round 5 too.
