i'm quite upset about losing Vrabel hes a good player , but life goes on , this new player is going to do us some favors. Now we have a big fighter maybe payette can carry on with his good form and scores goals.

Good signing, I have made no seceret i am NOT happy about teams having to cut players who are playing well (Pope, Vrabel) for players who may well be gone by christmas. Belak is not a goon but he can certainly look after himself, better player than cairns IMHO different sort of player to Davison, really strange seeing players of this calibre being signed by our small regional teams. I still think the Bison are going to have the biggest one though

I would like to join everyone else in giving best wishes to Michal Vrabel, I have enjoyed watching him play for the Blaze.
It is however very exciting that Belak is joining the Blaze, (despite our taunts towards Cardiff & London about NHL'rs). As there doesn't seem to be any sign that the NHL will be up and running this season, it is great to see these guys over here. The very least that we will get out of it is increased publicity for the game. Hopefully there will be a lot more than this.

Has anyone informed Mr Ferone yet about saturdays match? Haha, yeh! If Payette doesn't get him, Belak should! I've just put my name down for the Newcastle trip, just waiting for confirmation. Fingers crossed theres enough room on the coach.

Wade Belak-a big guy (6'5, 235 lbs) who was and has been used extensively by Toronto in the past four seasons, both as a seventh d-man and a grinding power forward. He'll definitely make sure the front of the net stays clear-remember watching a Leafs game against my beloved Penguins when he 'persuaded' the 6'4 230lb Mario Lemieux to leave the crease by upending him with an absolute demolisher of a hit-the forwards of the EIHL should pose him little problems in terms of size. He is far and away a better enforcer than the supposed 'league best' Angelstad (who even some Belfast fans, though not all, are beginning to realise is a bit of a plank hockey wise). He'll drop the gloves if needed, but I think a word from him will make most EIHL players back down-Andre and Schlender now have some serious back-up. He also has a nice habit, like Andre, of parking himself in front of the opposition net on the PP or when playing forward and refusing to move-something which was lacking last season and has earned results through Chrissy Mac, Andre and Calder already this season. A formidable signing and by far one of the top signings (along with Cairns and Davison) in the EIHL-unlike those two, however, he is a multi-role player-relatively rare in the NHL.
And, of course, good luck Micky-you did nothing wrong here this season, and you're welcome back anytime..

www.sportsline.com/nhl/players/playerpage/19175From web page: Wade Belak received an eight-game suspension from the NHL on Monday for his stick swinging incident on Saturday against the Avalanche. He took a two-handed chop at defenseman Ossi Vaananen's head. Nice!!! i knew this would come up. hey there everyone, i'm a leafs/belak fan and i have to say i'm very excited for you that he will be playing for the blaze. he's one tough hombre and a goalie's friend. he'll certainly clear the crease for you if he stays on defence. he's very versital and plays both positions for the leafs (wing and defence) and for the record about the suspension, here is my opinion on it. during that game, belak was having a career type game. he was banging and crashing and handing out some heavy hits. he fought another NHL enforcer (worrell) and punished him but good. he even had the entire ACC chanting his name during the bout. thats the type of game he was playing. then the accident. i have the game on tape and i've watched it a million times. there's no way he intentionally hit vaananen in the head. why would he? he had to be on a high with all the cheers he received that night, not to mention the leafs were winning. belak received 8 games because this came right after the bertuzzi incident. he was used as an example and thats it. martin havlat from the ottawa senators kicked someone with his skates on and received a 2 game suspension. less than 2 months later he intentionally crosschecks someone in the face and gets again 2 games but is not considered a "repeat offender" the NHL or colin campbell says belak received the 8 games because he was a repeat offender. belak was suspended 2 years prior for an elbow. the only reason they dubbed him as a "repeat offender" was because he's an enforcer. belak comes at you with his fists, not his stick. he's not that kind of guy. but all and all i think you guys will be very happy with him. i know we leaf fans love him and i'm glad he'll be doing again what he loves to do and thats play hockey!
