Just wandering what sorts of horror films you all like.
My fave/s are The Evil Dead, The Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness(Evil Dead 3)
Darkman is cool too.

"The Shining" is not scary, certainly not the scariest ever.
If you want scares and suspence watch Wrong Turn
and if you want gross out blood and guts see Cannibal Holocaust (although i wouldn't if i were you)

"Rosemary's Baby", "The Omen", "Quatermass and the pit" and "A nightmare on Elm street" are all classic schlock-horror movies - you don't need OTT SFX to scare somebody.
"The Shining" is a good old fashioned shocker - who wouldn't be disturbed by all those scenes with that kid on a tricycle - <<shudder!>>

I don't know if my perspective is warped but I always find myself laughing at so called "horror" flicks.
Of the list above I can only recall Texas Chainstore Massacre (!) Probably seen some of the others but nothing that I can remember for them. For chillingness though I watched real-life horror in the form of a 9/11 documentary which was horrific.

Off the beaten track, the Japanese version of The Ring and Battle Royale were pretty horrific. Then again, so are most teen movies-in a different and far scarier kind of way-I run for the hills every time I see the Olsen twins!

Yeah, Ringu was good.
Ichi the Killer is really horrific, gotta have a strong stomach to watch that.
Phsychological horrors are the worst, when it is left up to your own imagination for the details. Blair Witch Project was kinda like that.

Worst horror I ever saw was last year at Basingstoke I agree with Stephs post about the psychological horrors being more suspenseful than those with garish SFX
