21st December 2006 With immediate effect the Mobilx Vipers have parted company with forward Jim Shepherd. The 29-year-old Canadian joined in the summer from bmibaby EIHL rivals Basingstoke Bison and has scored 11 goals so far this season - most memorably netting four in a Challenge Cup match in Edinburgh. www.newcastlevipers.com/news/detail.php?id=1298

I was quite suprised by this departure. Shepherd is there third top points scorer and a decent player- no superstar, but can play decent hockey. I would have thought there would be others higher up their boot list. Wonder who they'll bring in.....

Very strange one-especially as he's one of their more effective forwards.
Personality clash, maybe?

Very strange one-especially as he's one of their more effective forwards. Personality clash, maybe? According to an article in the Newcastle Journal is was primarily down to ice time. Shepherd wanted more time on the Ice but Wilson was reluctant to change his lines to accommodate him, so they both decided that it would be the best for both parties if he left the club.
