From THF:
Jody back next season, anyone?
Lehman's blast at Steelers
JODY Lehman will probably be lining up against The Star Sheffield Steelers next season.
The former Grand-Slam-winning goalie says he would rather take a £200-a-week pay cut than play in a losing team again.
Asked whether he intends to return to Sheffield, he revealed: "Probably not. It's been a very frustrating year; we are a sixth-placed team.
"Some guys haven't been hitting or blocking shots all year. They won't pay the price.
"I tell people when they are playing badly yet they should know anyway. We looked scared and timid at the start of our last game against a tough team (Newcastle)."
Lehman is angry the side has been short-handed. "We don't have a lot of depth or strength. They should have brought in players who really care," he said. "We signed a defenceman (Stefan Sjogren) when everybody can see we were desperate for a goalscorer."
The outspoken Canadian claims owner Bob Phillips' decision to recruit (now departed) Dennis Maxwell as coach after agreeing a separate deal with Dave Whistle led to a "debacle" which the club has never recovered from.
"Three coaches in a year - a debacle," said Lehman.
"I tell it how it is. Am I afraid that Steelers will not want me next year? No. I may end up coming back to England, but playing somewhere else," added the ex-Coventry star. "I have won championships all my career and I'd rather have £200 a week less in my pay than play in a losing team."
