Well heading towards the end of another season so thought I'd get in early with one of the two annual debating points (The other being a unified league) and see what the viewpoints are.
Should we keep it the same, lower the number of imports allowed thereby increasing the number of British players involved or vice versa?

The problem now is by lowering the number of imports it either runs the risk of lowering the standard within the league or sky rockets the salary of the few higher standard Brits.
Lowering the import level but increasing the salary cap may be an option as that would allow the fewer imports to be of a higher standard.
Personally Id leave it alone but knowing our league they will decide to drop the import level half way through next season and introduce the two line pass rule.
I would really like to see the corners as out of bounds for keepers.

The editorial in Powerplay makes mention of the level for imports being 8 next season. I would see that as too drastic a change

So in one jump they propose to go from 11 to 8, well atleast they havent done it during a season. If anything they should strip the number of imports down one per year, that would let every team settle and if they announced the reduction a couple of years in advance ie 2006/7 is 10, 2007/8 is 9, 2008/9 is 8, then the teams could plan for it and start to bring up some of the younger Brits. If they did this I reckon players like Richardson, Carlon and Williams would be getting a lot more ice time.

Agreed that dropping the levels needs to be done gradually rather than in one swoop. That said it will only work if Brits of suitable quality are coming through. If not we will have a reduction in quality

The Brits wont come through on their own, they need to be brought up by getting ice time and coaching.

I think the elite league initially stated it would reduce numbers of imports gradually and i if i remember we should be operating at 10 now. 8 would seem drastic and i cannot see it being reduced that much but it is surely something to aim for. 10 for next year would be a start and would give slots to more brits unless they all do a dundee and use two forward lines only
