With Belfast seemingly throwing their gap at the top of the EIHL down the pan, could Vipers sneak in and snap up the league title?
I've worked it out as follows:
Vipers and Giants both have 2 games remaining. If Vipers win their remaining games they will get a maximum of 59 points. If Giants keep up their losing ways (Courtney & Fleury) both banned in their next fixture against Devils, then they will remain on 59 points. What will it come down to then, goal difference or results against eachother?

Giants have it on GF and I would expect that is how they would decide it.

I thought Vipers had 3 games left so could finish on 61 points.

I thought Vipers had 3 games left so could finish on 61 points. Not according to the Elite League website

I believe Giants have the edge on head to head results. That said their last fixture is aganist a Capitals side they hold a 100% record against.
Personally given that they have lead from the start it would be cruel if the Giants did a Devon Loch now

But Ceefax say they (Newcastle) have 3 games left. And now it appears they both have 3 left. How hard can it be to get a league table right?

As one of those Vipers games is against us we could be ina position to win the league for Belfast.

At the end of the day, whoever wins will have deserved to have won.
Belfast might have led from the start but did play quite a lot of games at the start of the season and leading to an inbalance (too much in my opinion) of the league table, with so many teams having so many games in hand.
Newcastle have always been up there, and if they pip Belfast they deserve to win. And if they don't then Belfast do.
In short, the league table won't lie at the end of the season.

Vipers do indeed have 3 more games to play, meaning they can get a maximum of 61 points, therefore more than Giants, if Giants should lose there next two fixtures.

Now that it is mathmatically impossible for Blaze to catch Newcastle I wouldn't actually mind seeing the Vipers beat the Giants to the title as it would be the biggest slip up in Elite League history. Us blowing the Challenge Cup Final after being 3-0 and then 4-3 up on aggregate was bad but that was only down to one bad night. For Giants not to win the Elite League now though would really take the biscuit.
This post may turnout to be the most pointless post ever as as things currently stand Newcastle are losing in Edinburgh. If that stays the same you might as well pencil Belfast Giants name on the Elite League trophy as they WILL be champions on goal difference, it just won't mathmatically be confirmed.

Oh well we 4th, but can still get 3rd.
I now want Belfast to beat Nottingham, as that will give us the best chance of 3rd.
