Thommo praises Jody....

Coventry Blaze coach Paul Thompson today praised Jody Lehman for his recent good performances - and backed his netminder's eccentric-looking tactics.

Lehman has earned a reputation for leaving his net to field the puck, only to give it straight back to the opposition.

Both last season and this, his famed stick-handling skills have let him down and cost a cheap goal. But Thompson has backed his man after a few intakes of breath during Sunday's 3-1 win over Belfast.

On those occasions, Lehman was decisive with the puck, and cleared it firmly. In the absence of any covering defencemen, he removed the threat of another Giants attack.

"The amount of plays that Jody breaks up because he goes walk-about is incredible," said Thompson.

"There are times when he makes the wrong play, but I encourage him to puck-handle in the right areas.

"I thought he was awesome against Belfast. There were five minutes where they came at us hard, but Jody was square to everything. He looked compact and solid and he is definitely coming into form."

Thompson praised the character of the side following the win that puts them second in a crowded table, with just two points separating the top five teams.

"We played purer hockey in Belfast last week and lost. On Sunday we conceded 36 shots but didn't really give them any good chances, and that frustrated them."

Coventry Phoenix claimed their first ever league win beating Oxford University 9-6 at the weekend. Katie Henry led the charge with four goals, Paige Henry got two - her first in a women's match - and Emily Gill scored her first ever goals in hockey on the way to grabbing a brace.

Meanwhile the Coventry Chaos recreational team continued their good run of recent form with a 13-6 win over the Solihull Wolves.

I agree with Thommo's remarks as well, I thought Jody had a great game on Sunday. I know there are people who don't rate him but at least he give us scope for lively discussion on the forum.

The thing with Jody seems to be that he will always provide talking points whether good or bad.
Generally speaking I feel he does more good than bad.

And he is a very likeable guy as well.

I have to agree with most of the post's Jody is a good netminder..ok so he has made some mistakes but who on the team hasn't and as for Steph saying that the other players keep the puck away from the net....Yes they do when they are in a position to do so which is not always possible. I get the feeling Jody could get a clean sheet and score 3 in the same match and some people would not be happy. As for not the best I cannot say I have seen anyone yet in any of the other teams who I would rather have.

From what we have seen this season I would rate Klemp the best, but even he had a bad day at the office on Sunday.
Last year Cruikshank got all the plaudits but seems to be afflicted by the same sophomore jinx that peeps were quick to bestow on Jody last year.

Jody obviously knows the way we play inside out and as a unit the team plays to his (And everyone leses) strengths. If you look at goals against I think you see how well he is doing- not the best in the league but by no means the worst. And when you analyse the goals conceded many were purely good goals as opposed to howling mistakes

I was going by the goals he conceded against his normal higher standards. Still a quality goalie even on his worst day
