It seems to have calmed down on the cage.

This thing got way out of hand very quickly! No thanks to Newham, who in a shameful act of self promotion, plastered his comments all over the place. excuse me? Self-promotion? How naiive can you get? I posted it on the cage and on here, if thats all over the place to you, you need to get out a little more. I wanted to see the Panthers fans reaction and also the Blaze fans reaction and if i there's a better place to find them than the forums, id love to see them. If you want someone to blame for it getting out of hand, why dont you have a go at the person who called 90% of Blaze fans scum? I simply said that there were people cheering that Ahlroos was injured and that you cheered your player off the ice for a despicable hit. Most people just ignored them - they know what we're really like, but still enough people will have taken them onboard and will be 'wary' next time they're in town. Which is a massive shame. Ive been coming to hockey for 13 years, and bar the odd bit of trouble up north, we've never had any real crowd trouble at games. Eveyr team in this league has a small band, maybe 5-10% of the fans who will act like bloody idiots, usually the ones who are coming straight from the football. This wont change and unfortunately these fans are loud enough to make it look like the majority. I've read most of the comments on here and on the cage and whilst i still remember what i saw, im not nearly as angry with what happened. The 'oscar' chant did go on far too long, but there were Blaze fans clapping him off the ice, fair play to them. I can't understand it - we built up a great relationship with the Devils, Giants, Phoenix and the Racers fans - so why not these guys ? I wouldnt say it was that bad, i get along with Blaze fans every time i go down. There is usually the odd mindless individual who ruins it, but i have a good number of friends who support Coventry and i know of many other Panthers fans who do. There's no reason why we can't be friends with these guys or the steelers - at the end of the day we're all there to watch the hockey. Hear, hear. Exactly how it should be

Just wanted to say that I don't think any real offense was supposed to be caused with the whole "Give Him An Oscar" chant, although from reading what has been written on this forum and the Cage Forum I think maybe it is a chant people should now think twice before doing.
Also the comment on the Cage Forum about 90% of Blaze fans being scum is ridiculas. It is only a small minority that go out deliberatly to offend opposition fans and try and cause trouble. When I was in Nottingham for the Playoff weekend we were walking down the road to McDonalds before the final and a few of us were singing Blaze songs when some cocky kids started giving us abuse. I could really exaggerate about that innocent and hold a big grudge against Panthers fans, however I don't simply because I know that most the Panthers fans took our singing in good spirit and it was only 3 kids that gave us any abuse and I also know that Panthers fans played a big part in making that weekend enjoyable for other fans.
Basically the point I am making "dont" judge every fan of a team by the behaviour of a small minority.

At the end of the day, it's just the small minority that try to stir things up. The away fans contribute just as much to the atmosphere as the home fans; from personal experience, it's seriously boring when there's absolutely nobody cheering for the other team. I didn't actually seem as bothered when they scored! In fact, i clapped with a few others who felt sorry for the opposition players! I've only ever been to away games at nottingham, and the people and atmosphere there are phenomenal. Let's just enjoy the best spectator sport in the country, and forget about petty arguments!

Lets not let a small minority of people who call themselves fans ruin such a great family sport.Do we really want it to go the way of football where opposing fans cannot mingle together, where police are needed at every match just in case of trouble i hope not because this is what made me turn more to hockey than football. you may think this is a bit far fetched but just ask your dad what supporting football used to be like before the holligans got hold of it.

Sorry to resurrect an old(ish) thread but I would just have just been reading this weeks Powerplay and I would like to thank the two correspondents that have written in the defence of the Blaze fans and the incidents at the Panthers game.
I completely agree with everything that they say and hope that these letters may lay to rest (for a while at least!) the notion that the Blaze fans are all 'scum'

Whilst I agree a rebuttal was probably required following the un-named letter of last week it doesn't do a lot to draw a close to the incident.
Surely it's now time to let it go and just enjoy the upcoming weekend

I agree the reaction to the Incident was not good. Mr Kirkam played a part in that situation. The cage forum shows the Panthers take on what happened. I am sure we have a diferent take.
I personaly suport the Blaze because of the fantastic team spirit, the best sport and I am able to take my kids with no fear of abuse or trouble.
What we need to do is take note and ensure we point out the errors of the minority and help them correct there ways. Any bad behavior reflects all of us as a club and I would like to think we are treated as we treat others.
Thats just my opinion. Come on you Blaze

Why does andre play like a man on a mission then do dumb things like shoving opposing players and get sent to the bin. If your going to get binned do it for something worth while wussy. I hope Kimmy gets well soon and when he does i dare say he'll be looking for revenge.

this thread was started by some panther fans lambasting the outburst of some blaze fans after this incident. with the events tonight at Nottingham with a certain No. 88 checking the flames netminder in the last two minutes of a game they were comfortably winning 7-2... it seems that some elements of the home support werent too conviced of the injury to the Flames player and cries of 'OSCAR','OSCAR' were heard echoing around the NIC... Hmmmmmmmmm Now whos shameful? ? This was obviously a small minority of 'FANS' but this is as unacceptable as it was two weeks ago please refer to the cage forum for full details...

To be fair to the Panthers there are posts on the cage where they do mention that they have one or two unsavoury elements (Like all clubs do), I guess that when it goes against you it's easy to be the victim. Again how did the Flames goalie go down that lead to the chanting? Always remember there are two (or more) sides to every story
